Posaune Posted October 7, 2016 #26 Share Posted October 7, 2016 I noted that Eluthera (location of Princess Cays) was taking 146 MPH winds a couple of hours ago. That will cause major damage.
DougandEric Posted October 7, 2016 #27 Share Posted October 7, 2016 Expect Princess Cays to out of commission for several weeks to months - those who have not experienced a hurricane have no idea the devastation that can occur. This goes for any of the cruise line private islands in the vicinity. And yes, I have gone through more than one hurricane in Florida - not fun. CaliforniaAC Posted October 7, 2016 #28 Share Posted October 7, 2016 Actually - I think it has been damaged a few times :(. I agree - prayers to everyone affected. I can't even imagine.... Yes, that would have to be the case.
candydane Posted October 7, 2016 #29 Share Posted October 7, 2016 We love Princess Cays! We always rent a bungalow for shade and fan if it's really hot. Shared with a couple friends -- great day! Hope the island residents are all doing ok.
satxdiver Posted October 7, 2016 #30 Share Posted October 7, 2016 Princess Cays (Eluthera) is very near sea level as is a lot of the island and was therefore under water. Add the high winds and I would expect that it will take months to get it back in shape. It has happened before a few years ago that I remember and probably more before the last time. It was several months before it could be used again. Between the water damage and wind damage, Princess Cays was probably pretty much wiped out. floridalover5623 Posted October 7, 2016 #31 Share Posted October 7, 2016 I would also prefer Grand Turk over Princess Cays!! That's not a viable substitution due to it's location.

Rare azbirdmom Posted October 11, 2016 #36 Share Posted October 11, 2016 (edited) Has there been any confirmation regarding its status?Hopefully it was spared the worst. Per a CC news clip issued today, other "private" islands are expected to open up. Wish they would have said more than no cruises were scheduled there until October 28th. http://www.cruisecritic.com/news/news.cfm?ID=7273 Edited October 11, 2016 by azbirdmom
Rare Coral Posted October 12, 2016 #37 Share Posted October 12, 2016 (edited) I found this: https://globenewswire.com/news-release/2016/10/08/878062/10165524/en/Most-Airports-In-The-Islands-Of-The-Bahamas-Open-following-Hurricane-Matthew-s-Passing.html Eleuthera On Eleuthera, there was minimal damage. Villa Allamanda looks fine from an outside inspection. French Leave is closed for renovations, but no major damage was reported. http://eleutheranews.com/?p=5919 Edited October 12, 2016 by Coral
