Found this little bit of info on line

 

•Great Stirrup Cay. Norwegian Cruise Lines' private island, Great Stirrup Cay, is undergoing renovations through October 22 so the storm did not affect any calls slated there. A team is en route to assess the island, the line said.

So, that translated into the work isn't done yet when Matthew passed thru the Bahamas, fairly close by and they aren't sure of the extent of damages and any possible extra work needed. There are locals/NCL employees that work & live on GSC as we spoke with some of them last year (and, they enjoyed being on the remote island instead of floating around on a ship, especially when they are off-duty) ... they most likely evacuated & left before the storm came thru last week.

 

This is very interesting to follow with the promised upgrades, although we have no plans to sail there as a stop anytime soon.

We're local in Ft Lauderdale and thinking of jumping on next Friday for a quick getaway. It'd be great if it open next weekend, we'd be one of the first to experience the changes.

Hoping to sail there later this year. NCL cancelled calls to Freeport this week due to storm damage (substituting key west and overnight Nassau).

We're on the BA sailing in two weeks and have booked a small cabana on GSC. Any speculation as to whether they've upgraded the old cabanas, left them as-is, and/or replaced them with the new air-conditioned ones with bathrooms they've announced?

The cabanas with the bath- and bedrooms are part of the 2017 refit (Lagoon area expansion). I am not sure what is being done at the moment, maybe some landscaping and decking in accordance with this Edge project render?

It got me wondering though.. some news reports (all based upon NCL's press release a while ago) tend to bring as all the enhancements will be done after this refit (zipline, the lagoon area, etc etc). I can't imagine that?
