candycaramel Posted October 18, 2016 #1 Share Posted October 18, 2016 We are driving to LA (5 hour car ride). Spending Thanksgiving with hubby's family. Maybe walk to Venice Beach or Santa Monica boardwalk on Thanksgiving day. Evening at a hotel where they have a nice happy hour. Friday we will embark on a 3 day cruise to Ensenada. I plan to do some spa treatments on board, enjoy the water slides one day on board, go to dinner and enjoy the shows nightly. Sleep in and lounge. We may or may not go into Ensenada. I want to get everything into either a 20 inch suitcase or a 24 inch rolling duffle bag. Yes, I am going to practice packing now. :D Is this too much stuff? 1 velour warm up suit - Car travel/ lounge wear on cruise 1 slim indigo jean - embarkation/Thanksgiving day 1 slim black pant - evening 1 black mini dress -evening 1 maxi dress- evenings or lounging 1 pair of shorts - water slides or pool day 1 bathing suit 1 black gauze bathing suit cover up- pool day or going to spa 4 t-shirts - day wear 1 dressy black blouse - dinner I feel like I want to pack another dressy top to wear with the black pants to dinner. I also have a second black dress that I could switch out with my first choice and wear as both an evening dress and pool cover up but it is baggy and loose and a bit longer. Not as cute. Shoes: 1 Black dressy thong sandal - Day and Evening 1 tennis shoe 1 walking sandal- just added this I kind of want to add a pair of slippers Still to pack: Pajamas- 1 night gown, undies, toiletries( which always takes up much of my suitcase) What have other folks taken on 3 day cruises or weekend getaways? Well done! I usually pack two bathing suits, so that I have one dry one, ready to wear, if the other is still wet. waterbug123 Posted October 19, 2016 #3 Share Posted October 19, 2016 What have other folks taken on 3 day cruises or weekend getaways? A few years back I did a 3 night cruise with just a tote bag! It was a Bahamas cruise, and we had nothing planned but relaxing around the pool, maybe lunch in Nassau, but no excursions and no worries about hitting the gym. I flew down on embarkation day, wearing a black knit sundress and a pair of cute flip flops. The dress became my pool cover-up and the flip flops (cute wedge style) were the only daytime shoes I packed or wore. In my Vera Bradley tote bag I packed: 1 pair of white pants with 2 tops (wore pants twice, two evenings covered) 1 blue/green/white print maxi dress for the 3rd evening 1 pair of white wedges; matched the maxi dress and the white pants 1 pair of shorts and a tank top in case we went into Nassau for lunch 3 extra pair of underwear 1 bathing suit and a visor If I recall correctly, I wore the shorts home with one of the tops I'd worn to dinner one night. Obviously it was a top that could be dressy or casual, depending on what it was paired with. I sleep au naturel so no need for pj's, and I figured that if I found myself needing another casual daytime shirt I could just buy a t-shirt onboard. Didn't end up needing to though. We had room service breakfast so no need for breakfast attire. We lounged in the room in the robes that were provided in our junior suite. When we dressed, we dressed for the pool and stayed that way all day til we showered and dressed for dinner. I took very minimal make-up and toiletries. I have a mountain of stuff that I choose from each day at home, but for 3 days I can go pretty skinny on the lotions and potions, and all in travel sizes that fit in a 3-1-1 bag. Toothbrush and toothpaste, deodorant, razor, face moisturizer, sunscreen and sunscreen lip balm, face wash and a couple individually packaged make-up wipes. Likewise for make-up, I can go pretty minimal for 3 days...a powder foundation compact, concealer, skipped the blush since I knew I'd get some sun on my face, one small eyeshadow quad, an eyeliner pencil, mascara, 1 lipstick and that was pretty much it. I wore a necklace on the flight that went with all my evening outfits and other than the diamond earrings and rings that I wear every day I didn't pack any other jewelry. Threw my hairbrush in with a couple hair ties and that was it. Very minimal, but for 3 days of not much more than pool lounging, napping, and then dinner/casino it was fine, and it all fit easily in my tote bag. awhfy Posted October 19, 2016 #4 Share Posted October 19, 2016 I'd take 2 of each shoe [emoji6]. If I wasn't going to work out I'd not take the sneakers (heavy & take up a lot of room). I'd add a pair of flip flops & a cardigan Sent from my iPad using Forums
islandgirlejfan Posted October 19, 2016 #5 Share Posted October 19, 2016 I'd probably be thinking the following for a three day cruise: pair of slacks dress a few tank tops that I could wear in the evening with a shrug, then use the next day with my shorts possibly a t-shirt shorts underwear something for bedtime pair of flats that would go with both the pants and dress flip flops bathing suit and cover up some jewelry to change things up personal items I pretty much live in my swimsuit on a cruise and I pack in a carry on for a long cruise....I am sure this would fit in my Delsey quilted rolling bag which is half the size of my Lipault folding bag that I take on longer cruises. Hoyaheel Posted October 19, 2016 #7 Share Posted October 19, 2016 I think your overall list looks great. I probably would bring a shirt or two that could do dinner + daytime duty, if needed (are the 4 t-shirts the only options you have to go with your jeans?) Also, make sure you have a warmth layer just in case - would that be the top of your velour warm-up suit? I might want a nicer cardigan or wrap I could use in the evenings on the cruise)
candycaramel Posted October 20, 2016 Author #8 Share Posted October 20, 2016 I think I will switch out a couple of t-shirts with a couple of nicer blouses. I agree I do a need a cardigan for cooler evening.
