Dreamer115 Posted October 26, 2016 #1 Share Posted October 26, 2016 Which is the best side of the bus on the road to Hana. The ocean side or the land side. I think there would be benefits to both, so I am asking those that have gone what they think of the seats they had. Connie
mongee Posted October 26, 2016 #2 Share Posted October 26, 2016 The left has the best views as it is the coast side. I sat on the left and had some great views. There are photos in my blog which is linked in my signature, if you are interested.
PCWalton1 Posted October 27, 2016 #3 Share Posted October 27, 2016 Isn't it round trip? So wouldn't either side give you the same view either coming or going?
mongee Posted October 27, 2016 #4 Share Posted October 27, 2016 The tour that I took went all around the east end of the island and then up through the middle and back down to Kahului, so I was on the coastal side the whole way. It didn't go to Hana and back, if it did then it probably wouldn't matter what side of the bus you sit.
CruiserBruce Posted October 27, 2016 #5 Share Posted October 27, 2016 Isn't it round trip? So wouldn't either side give you the same view either coming or going? The vast majority of the tours do, yes.

PNW Traveler Posted October 27, 2016 #7 Share Posted October 27, 2016 There are waterfalls and tropical flowers to view on the land side/uphill side. It's all very beautiful.
tea4ular Posted October 27, 2016 #8 Share Posted October 27, 2016 I agree that there's beauty in either side. That said I sat on the left and had the coastal views.
cb at sea Posted October 28, 2016 #9 Share Posted October 28, 2016 Honestly...unless you've seen everything else Maui has to offer, you will waste an entire day on this trip. Hana is ok...but ONLY if you have an entire day to "kill"... Maui has so much to offer...riding thru the "outback" of Maui seems a waste of your limited time. The beginning of the trip is "tropical"...the rest is moonscape....bumpy and desolate.
Dreamer115 Posted October 29, 2016 Author #10 Share Posted October 29, 2016 We are going to be there for 2 weeks so it won't be a wadted day. Looking forward to it and want DH to enjoy it too that is why we are taking a tour rather than driving
Susan-M Posted October 29, 2016 #11 Share Posted October 29, 2016 (edited) We are going to be there for 2 weeks so it won't be a wasted day. Looking forward to it and want DH to enjoy it too that is why we are taking a tour rather than driving Agree with the recommendations for sitting on the left side if it's a tour that returns via the other side of Haleakala...i.e. a loop vs. just to Hana & back. A disadvantage to doing a tour is not being able to hike the Pipiwai Trail ... but if hiking isn't of interest, then it's not an issue. Doing the RTH will be a day well spent during your two weeks on Maui ... enjoy.:) Edited October 29, 2016 by Susan-M
Dreamer115 Posted October 29, 2016 Author #12 Share Posted October 29, 2016 Thank you Susan, I think it will be very worth it. Going in December and can't wait. We spent 2 days in Maui on a cruise 3 years ago and this time is a flying in trip so we have more time to see everything. I just wish that Iao Valley was open but unfortunately it will be closed for several months. Thanks to everyone for their comments. Connie
