Nuurbrend Posted October 30, 2016 #1 Share Posted October 30, 2016 Just back from the brilliant Dream. It was our very first cruise and was everything we could have dreamed it would be. Food, entertainment, cabin and drinks were top notch. We are thinking of going on our next cruise in the summer but on the Discovery. Does anyone know of sites with good offers please.:)

Rare Essiesmom Posted October 31, 2016 #8 Share Posted October 31, 2016 Do you have any tips on the Dream for me? Where did your cruise go? The OP sailed on Thomson Dream, and is considering Thomson Discovery. I suspect you are thinking of Carnival Dream. EM

Rare John Bull Posted October 31, 2016 #10 Share Posted October 31, 2016 (edited) Like Essie's Mom, I'm presuming these are Thomson ships & the OP is from the UK. If not, disregard this post. We're not allowed to name names but you're certainly much better to use a cruise specialist rather than an all-sorts high street agency - because they specialise they know their subject in depth & can be very useful for background information & advice. For example on some Thomson ships it's worth paying the extra (£35?) to select a specific cabin. So google "cruise agents". And get on the phone, not the internet or e-mail. Do negotiate, you can often get a better price than advertised - if not, aim for freebies like an upgrade. Play one agency against another, then return to the agency which was most helpful & ask them to match it. Best value is usually a late booking - big savings to be made, especially if you're flexible on dates. But also the risk of a cruise being sold-out - so if you're stuck with holiday dates or are particularly keen on a certain itinerary don't take the brinksmanship too far. Thomson frequently include (or discount) a drinks package as a come-on for early bookings or to sell late left-over cabins. At full price IMHO the package is very poor value, as a half-price promo it's good value, as a freebie it's exceptional value ;) Many other cruise lines are rated a cut above Thomson, but Thomson is a very good way to get into cruising and their ships always have a friendly & sociable clientele & crew.
