cruisecrazy30 Posted October 31, 2016 #1 Share Posted October 31, 2016 My friend and I are looking for a good but affordable excursion in st Maarten this February anyone have any suggestions? Thanks
CruiserBruce Posted October 31, 2016 #2 Share Posted October 31, 2016 Welcome to Cruise Critic! As we have no idea what your interests are, very hard to make a reference for you. One you are not interested in wouldn't be a good one, would it? We also don't know what you are being offered. So, perhaps a little research is in order to narrow this pretty vague question. See what the ship is offering- check the website for your cruise line. What interests you? Look on the St Maarten portion of Cruise Critic, here: http://boards.cruisecritic.com/forumdisplay.php?f=93 See what interests you. You might be able to do a number of activities on your own, or through private sources for cheaper.
sloopsailor Posted October 31, 2016 #3 Share Posted October 31, 2016 (edited) The wives shopped while the husbands took a taxi out to Maho Beach to watch the planes land. Afterwards, we spent some time on the beach near the dock and enjoyed a swim in the warm water. Edited October 31, 2016 by sloopsailor
HardToPort Posted October 31, 2016 #4 Share Posted October 31, 2016 My friend and I are looking for a good but affordable excursion in st Maarten this February anyone have any suggestions? Thanks Captain Bob's Tours - a full day (5-6 hours), snorkeling, lunch, swimming, souvenir shopping, watching airplanes coming into land right over your head, great crew and bottomless ice chest of beer!!! Approx $100. Great value for money!!! You can find his info on TripAdvisor. Cheers! HTP
firefighterman Posted October 31, 2016 #5 Share Posted October 31, 2016 If you like to watch jets land and the beach with a bar go to Maho Beach! https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maho_Beach or Take a taxi to Orient Beach https://www.tripadvisor.com/Attraction_Review-g1073588-d2008464-Reviews-Orient_Bay_Beach-Orient_Bay_Saint_Martin_St_Maarten_St_Martin.html The cruise lines offer excursions to both locations, you can book online with a high rated tour company as well go to tripadvisor to see reviews. Rare Crew News Posted October 31, 2016 #6 Share Posted October 31, 2016 I enjoyed the Butterfly Farm Tour and the visit to the French side of the island. Make sure you stop and buy a few 6.6-pound wheels of Gouda Cheese for $29 behind the Tourist Booth just off the pier.
capriccio Posted October 31, 2016 #7 Share Posted October 31, 2016 If you have ever been on sailboats or wish you had, the America's Cup Race is great fun. The excursion is often offered through the cruiselines but you can check out their website: https://www.12metre.com/.
Cruisen Elf Posted October 31, 2016 #8 Share Posted October 31, 2016 We did a tour with Bernard's St. Maarten's Tours that was very nice and came highly recommended on Cruise Critic. Here is their website: http://www.bernardstours.com/index.html You may also want to check on the St. Maarten board for other recommendations: http://boards.cruisecritic.com/forumdisplay.php?f=

alexspepa Posted November 1, 2016 #11 Share Posted November 1, 2016 America's Cup is one of the BEST excursions. Only available thru the cruise line. I agree it is a blast...for me it was the most expensive excursion ever because a few months later I bought a sailboat!
brunello22 Posted November 1, 2016 #12 Share Posted November 1, 2016 We always rent a car (Coastal Car Rental) and drive around the island at our leisure. We enjoy spending time on the French side. There are great mom and pop seafood restaurants in Gran Case and the beaches around the French side are less populated that on the Dutch side.
