We are going out of port everglades in feb and have two days to burn around the area. Our family stayed at B ocean last time and there just wasn't a whole lot to do around that area (food choices and shopping) looking for some ideas to help us decide where to stay.We thought about hyatt pier 66 towers just so we could wake up and see the ships every morning, we just don't know if there is anything to see and do within walking distance.

Welcome to Cruise Critic!

A little reading on the board would find tons of info an things to do. The first one that leaps to mind is the water taxi. That would be pretty much a full day...or could be two if you do one route one day, and the other route the other day...although I can't recommend the southern route. And it stops right at the Hilton Marina

Helpful to know the ages involved so as to give age appropriate advice.

Which location of the B Ocean? Was it the new building at Sunrise and A1A or where it is now in the old Sheraton Yankee Clipper?

Kids are 12,9,6 we liked the area but there just wasn't much to do,someone mentioned the water taxi and that sounded like something the kids would like.

You can also take the Sun Trolley (http://www.suntrolley.com) around town and along the beach for $1 ride/$3 day pass. The kids might like the Museum of Discovery and Science (http://www.mods.org/) located downtown - I know my husband I enjoyed it and we didn't have any kids with us :D. If you have any current or potential competitive swimmers in the family, they might like the International Swimming Hall of Fame (http://www.ishof.org/current-exhibits.html).

we were at the old yankee clipper two yrs ago

OK...I just wanted to understand which area you were in.

Depending on what day your cruise is leaving, you may not see any ships in port from Pier 66. Saturdays and Sundays are the big days, otherwise not much else happens during the week.

Hyatt Pier 66 location is not that much better of a location than the B, it's farther from the beach and you will still have to cross over the 17th Street Causeway to get any restaurants. Pelican Landing on top of Pier 66's Marina Office is a good place for happy hour (2:00-6:00) and watch all the yachts go by, but not much for the kids to do.

As suggested above...The Water Taxi gives you a whole range of options all day and all night. On the other side of the Intracoastal from Pier 66 (Hilton Marina) is where the Ft Lauderdale Water Taxi and the Hollywood Water Taxi meet and transfer. In the daytime you could jump on the Hollywood Water Taxi, go south through Port Everglades and get off at 5:00 Somewhere, cross the street to Margaritaville and the Hollywood Broadwalk where the kids could pay to ride the Flowrider there. Right there is a bandshell on the beach with free concerts in the evening and there are plenty of restaurants up and down the Broadwalk.

Or you ride the Ft Lauderdale Water Taxi north along Millionaire's Row to all kinds of restaurants, shopping malls or even the beach. Get on, get off all day long and into the evening.

You might also consider staying at the Bahia Mar Doubletree near the B. It has a Water Taxi stop.

Close to the B and Bahia Mar is the Jungle Queen...

THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU that helps out a lot.

I forgot to add the Water Taxi web site...

http://watertaxi.com/

One thing to know...The Water Taxi stop at the Bahia Mar comes after the stops at the Hilton Marina and Pier 66, so if you want to transfer to the Hollywood Water Taxi you would have to ride the entire northern loop before you got to the transfer point underneath the 17th Street Causeway in front of the Hilton Marina.

Have you ever done the Everglades airboat trip? You can purchase tickets from hotel where you are staying or buy online before going to FLL...my 10 yr old granddaughter loved this, she even got to hold a baby alligator after the ride(they will take pictures to show friends when they get home!)

Have a great trip!:D
