eddiemac Posted November 5, 2016 #1 Share Posted November 5, 2016 Have 1 day at the Airport Hilton before returning home the next day. What is the best way to get from the airport to the Vatican?
CruiserBruce Posted November 5, 2016 #2 Share Posted November 5, 2016 Define "best". We like sitting in a limo sipping champagne. As discussed frequently here, there are many options. The Hilton has a shuttle to downtown. Taxi. Train. private transport, like the wonderful Rome in Limo. Taxi is the most direct.
slidergirl Posted November 5, 2016 #3 Share Posted November 5, 2016 totally depends on "best" is in your mind: Free shuttle from Hilton will drop at only one place in Rome and from there, you are on your own. Leonardo Express from the train station at FCO (a maybe 10 minute walk through the parking structure from the Hilton) to Roma Termini. Get on the A Metro line at the Termini Metro station. If going to the Vatican Museums, get off at the Cipro station and walk up the hill about 15 minutes to the front door. If going to St. Peter's Square, get off at the Ottaviano stop (before Cipro). My always note: If you want a bite to eat, Bonci's Pizzarium is right outside of the Cipro station!!!
iancal Posted November 6, 2016 #4 Share Posted November 6, 2016 We took the airport bus a few years ago. It leaves from outside the airport. It goes to Termini. What we did not realize was that it make a stop very, very close to the Vatican. Within a few blocks. Previous to this we had always used the train. Another option. Train from the airport. Change trains and get on a local that stops at S. Pietro. This is the Vatican stop. When you get off just go out the station, walk down the hill, cross the street, and you are at St. Peters. As a clarification; not all of the airport express buses have a stop close to the Vatican. One of them does but I cannot remember -- can you specify which line you took? iancal Posted November 10, 2016 #6 Share Posted November 10, 2016 (edited) No idea. They were all lined up outside the air terminal. We paid our 4E and hopped on. We were going to Termini-which they all do. We had no reason to ask about other stops. We were quite surpised when the bus made two stops on the way. We did not recognize the Vatican area until right after the stop when the bus turned a corner a suddenly we had our bearings. The bus stops on the far side of termini, opposite end of where the FCO train is, and very close to the Termini shops and the TI (which is where we purchased our Rome passes). euro cruiser Posted November 10, 2016 #7 Share Posted November 10, 2016 The Sit bus has a stop in Piazza Cavour, not terribly far from the Vatican: http://www.sitbusshuttle.com/it/lowcost-busshuttle-from-fiumicino-airport-to-rome-city-center/?77tadunit=e49c02dd&77tentry=fiumicino_cavour&gclid=CPuA6t6Xn9ACFU1LDQodoTADWA
