Need recommendations for family cruise

We are in the initial stages of planning a family cruise for our family. There will be 16 people; my wife and I in our late 60's, and our children along with our grandkids. The grandkids range in age from 4 to 20. Since our one daughter and her husband and their kids live in Florida we would prefer to leave from a port in florida. Have been thinking a Disney cruise although I am wondering if the two oldest grand kids (ages 19 and 20) would find Disney boring? We are looking for a cruise of 4 to 7 days.

Any suggestions for a cruise for our family?

Thanks

I recommend Norwegian Epic out of Port Canaveral. Their water slides (5) and rope course will keep the kids busy all day. Disney is too expensive and may disappoint the adults. Not a lot of night time activities; also no casino if you're into that. Oasis of the Seas out of Port Canaveral is also good option with plenty to do on ship.

I know my boys, 12 and 18 have had fun on Carnival for years. We prefer the longer 7 day cruise - it has more time to relax, and has more of a family atmosphere. I would recommend newer ships like Vista, Magic or Sunshine as they have lots to offer, all of which leave from Fl ports. I would avoid any itinerary that goes to Nassau and Freeport in the Bahamas; Western is a great route to take if you want to expose the kids to a wide variety of shore excursions, including mayan ruins in Hondouras or Belize.

ANY of the mainstream lines will work for your multi-generational family. Truly! All are fine..all have "kid's clubs"...and most have the "bells and whistles" that many want. I'm in my 60's...have no need of rock walls, or surfing...I want good service, good food, and nice cabins!

I would recommend Norwegian. They frequently offer 3rd and 4th guests sail free, which could be a big savings for a large family. They offer other promotions as well. Often you get two choices if you are in an ocean view room or above. As far as ship, the larger ones generally have a lot to offer for all ages.

Personally, I would choose the Caribbean as far as location. It is my personal preference, but I think there is a lot of variety to offer, excursion wise.

I have heard great things about Disney cruises though I am not sure for the older "kids". To me, it isn't worth the additional cost (roughly triple other cruise lines). We cruise for the ports and not necessarily for the ship activities. Not that ship activities aren't important.. they are, but they are not the main reason we cruise. And certainly, I would not pay significantly more for that.

Those are my two cents...

I do wonder how they get away with these costs.

Is it really 3 times better quality?

I've heard they are pretty great, but they are out of the range we are willing to pay. We prefer to be able to do multiple vacations during the year instead.

You might consider RCI's Allure or Harmony out of Port Everglades (Fort Lauderdale)....the eastern route is a very popular one with families. Best of luck on your decision and enjoy !!

We are on Harmony of the Seas right now, and would highly recommend it. There is something for everyone!
