Anita Cruz Posted November 18, 2016 #1 Share Posted November 18, 2016 Hi there, Tahiti Wind Spirit itinerary - we have pre booked one excursion online for our upcoming cruise. We are also doing a few activities on our own but are not fully planned for every island. Is it possible to book excursion while onboard? Or odds are most will be completely full? Has anyone done this? Thanks for your time!
Minorhawk Posted December 12, 2016 #2 Share Posted December 12, 2016 You should have no problem booking onboard...if it's something you definitely want to do though, I'd book it upfront. Sent from my SM-N910P using Forums mobile app
ducklite Posted December 17, 2016 #3 Share Posted December 17, 2016 You'll want to book Dr. Poole's dolphins in advance--best excursion we took (on another line) and they limit it to only 15-20 people, so if you don't book ahead you will miss out. Strenz Posted December 17, 2016 #4 Share Posted December 17, 2016 Ditto to Ducklite, Dr. Poole's dophin was fabulous as was the Moai excursion on the island of Huahine, fascinating historical tour especially if you have visited the Moai sites on Easter Island, all being part of yhe great Polynesian Triangle. We felt that WS's tours on the Tahiti trip were of excellent quality, we also enjoyed swiming with the rays and sharks. We are not tour people we really are independent travelers. Those three tours were great and really fun. Added to one of the best trips we have taken with WS. Happy Sailing.

BayAreaBC Posted December 26, 2016 #6 Share Posted December 26, 2016 We pre-booked through the tour operators directly. Prices are a third to half of the cruise prices.

IME, many of the tour operators have contracts with the cruise line, and will not accept direct bookings.

Read tripadvisor.com and you can determine who to book with. It typically takes them a couple days to respond.
slf1108 Posted December 28, 2016 #9 Share Posted December 28, 2016 We just returned from our Tahiti cruise on the Wind Spirit. We didn't book any excursions upfront and had no problem booking them onboard. There was actually a meeting in the lounge the first day where all excursions were discussed/explained and sign-ups immediate following. There are only 120 or so people on board so nothing is really crowded. There are also quite a few private excursions or taxis available to rent on the islands. RBCal Posted December 28, 2016 #10 Share Posted December 28, 2016 It's hard to go wrong when you visit paradise. Saving money makes it easier to return though.
petenmarion Posted January 4, 2017 #11 Share Posted January 4, 2017 If any recent Tahiti passengers have a moment, could you say when ( time of afternoon ) boarding starts on the day of embarkation and whether the Air Tahiti Nui flights that come in late in the evening (like 10:30 pm) are feasible for the midnight departure of the ship? Just trying to decide on a 5:30 am vs 10:30 pm arrival in PPT.

Just trying to decide on a 5:30 am vs 10:30 pm arrival in PPT. The ship will wait for the late arrivals on the ATN flight. That said, we came in on the Air France overnight flight. I booked a room at the IC Tahiti for the night before and sent them an email letting them know we would be arriving around 6:00 am. It was amazing getting checked in immediately to our room, taking a warm shower, and collapsing into bed for a few hours of really good sleep. ducklite Posted January 4, 2017 #14 Share Posted January 4, 2017 Unfortunately we cruised on the PG as Windstar hadn't returned to FP yet, so I don't know. I know when we sailed with them in the Med we got on sometime between 1:00 and 2:00.
Rare texasstar Posted January 5, 2017 #15 Share Posted January 5, 2017 We were there in May 2016 and were allowed to board around 1 PM. We flew in the night before and stayed at the Manava Suites. It is a nice smaller hotel, with a beautiful view of Moorea. We did reserve a dayroom at the IC at the end of the trip. It was expensive, but a beautiful way to spend your last day in Tahiti before the long flight back. If you can, I would recommend flying on Air France. The trip on ATN was the most uncomfortable flight I have ever flown. Have a beautiful trip.
