Any odor problems on Sunshine

We sailed on the Sunshine 2 years ago with a group of family and friends. One of the issues we had last time, was an odor issue in some of the lower deck hallways, and on some nights the smell was even noticeable in the atrium area. We are considering the Sunshine again but, has anyone had the same problem on recent Sunshine cruises?

All ships, at one time or another, can (and will) have a sewage odor problem...something about the way the sewage lines work on ships.

It's usually not relegated to one area...it can happen anywhere. Normally, it's fairly fleeting....sometimes, it can last for a couple days.

This happens on EVERY ship at some time or another. Just a thing that happens on cruises!

I found the smoke from the casino spread much further on the Sunshine than any other ship I've sailed on. Also they have a weird process for the Your Time MDR where you have to check in right next to the casino, the line often going into the casino, and then have to go down 2 decks to actually enter the MDR. So the only smell issue I found was smoke.

The ships use the sewage to heat with. I don't recall the system or process name but watched a video on if while we were on the Fantasy. They said sometimes you will get a hint of sewage smell from it.

Ah, no. The solids left over from the waste water treatment plant (typically the only solid matter left is paper fibers) may be incinerated, but the heat from the incinerator goes straight up the stack and isn't used for anything. This incineration may cause the occasional odor, but outside.

As I've stated before, the main culprit of odors inside the ship are floor drains where the P-trap has dried out. All sinks, showers, and floor drains have traps in them, just like under your sink at home. If the trap does not see a frequent amount of water, the dry AC air will evaporate the water in the trap, and odors will back up. If it happens in your cabin, look for the bathroom floor drain (either a gutter at the door, or a drain hidden under the toilet) and pour a glass of water down it, and the smell will stop immediately.
