luv2gamble Posted November 27, 2016 #1 Share Posted November 27, 2016 Hi All. On the Breakaway you had to use your room key to turn on your room lights. I never been on the Epic. Does anyone know if its like that also? On Breakaway I even put a decoy library card and left it in slot so I always had my lights on. they took it out and left a note saying trying to conserve electricity and not to leave a card in slot. Sauer-kraut Posted November 27, 2016 #3 Share Posted November 27, 2016 The Epic doesn't have this system. This is incorrect, at least in the Studio Cabins you had to put a card in the slot in order to have lighting on. I used a business card and it worked. nicsmama649 Posted November 27, 2016 #6 Share Posted November 27, 2016 We were on the Epic in 2015 and we had to use a card to turn on the lights. We never had an issue with room steward telling us we had to remove our card while we were not in our room.
hawkeyetlse Posted November 27, 2016 #7 Share Posted November 27, 2016 (edited) Oops, I didn't know about the studios. And now that I think about it, maybe there was this system in the cabins we had. I'm all for saving electricity, but this isn't a great way to do it. Edited November 27, 2016 by hawkeyetlse
cb at sea Posted November 27, 2016 #8 Share Posted November 27, 2016 IF you're ever on a ship with this system, ANY thing in the slot will work...folded paper, a business card, a shopping reward card....anything that breaks the little beam of light in that fixture will keep the electric on. Zippeedee Posted November 27, 2016 #9 Share Posted November 27, 2016 I used a hotel key card in my Epic balcony cabin. It was there all week, my steward never touched it.

Zippeedee Posted November 27, 2016 #14 Share Posted November 27, 2016 I usually have at least one thing plugged into a charger. I also don't like to walk into a dark room and fumble for the key card slot. My steward always left lights on for me after he did turndown. Daddyrob81 Posted November 27, 2016 #15 Share Posted November 27, 2016 I dont get something . Why all of you want to leave lights when u not in your cabin?? I don't think it's about the lights. I did find this annoying when trying to charge electronic devices that may have died during the day. Didn't know a few years ago that it could be any card. grandmarnnurse Posted November 27, 2016 #16 Share Posted November 27, 2016 I also often leave things plugged into charger, so I would need power on. I'm bringing an old cruise card to use. Sent from my iPad using Forums

If I remember correctly, with the card in the slot, you could still manually turn lights on and off with the light switches.

Debnjoe1438 From my experience in the Studio units, if the card wasn't in the slot nothing in the room worked power wise. You could always brush your teeth via the light from the phone [emoji3]. When you take the card out, you have about a minute before the power cuts out, I assume this is to get your booty out of the stateroom. You may have had a different experience in your stateroom. mblitch Posted December 1, 2016 #21 Share Posted December 1, 2016 (edited) had. I'm all for saving electricity, but this isn't a great way to do it. Exactly why do you say it is not a 'great way' to do it? Why do you need a single light on when you leave the room? What possible good is there to have lights on when not a single person is in the room? Edited December 1, 2016 by mblitch

Cyclops32 Posted December 1, 2016 #23 Share Posted December 1, 2016 To me I don't like to walk into a dark room like another person stated. I don't leave every light on but like to have at least on on. Sent from my XT1254 using Forums mobile app

I always leave one light on, as we are in an inside cabin, and I don't like walking into darkness. Also, although I haven't experienced this method of power conservation yet, I will on my January cruise on the Getaway. I am bringing along an old sail card to use in slot, because from what I hear, the power outlets won't even work without a card in slot, and I often leave things charging.
