Taking Cash On A Cruise

TOTALLY AGREE!

When visiting ports, especially foreign ports, the fewer people who know my name and have my credit card info, the better.

I prefer Amex get ripped off, not me.

I do bring sufficient cash on a cruise. Many small denominations. On shore many locals play the "we have no change" game so if you have a $20 and the item is $16, well, it's now $20.

On Rhapsody last month, the casino cashier would not give us cash from

our sea pass account. They would only give you chips at the tables from

your account. Not sure if this new policy is on other ships or not.

That's usually the case, just take the chips back to the cashier and you have cash!

My concern is identity theft. Fortunately, I have never been a victim of this, but again, the less people who know my name and have my credit card info, the happier I am.

Regarding the "we have no change" game, yes, this happens. Unless you absolutely, 100%, totally need whatever it is you are buying, if they pull the "no change" game, I pull the "sorry, no deal" reply, and walk away. Amazing how quickly they seem to find some change.

Not being much a gambler, I also thought of that...too late. Duh to me. :(

Will keep that in mind the next time. ;)

Cash is king...

This is absolutely true, with Royal's private Haitian Island: the vendors ONLY would accept US currency and there was no ATM on the island???

How do we buy things when the ship has you use your seapass card for all charges, yet it does not work on their island? No I am not walking all the way back to the ship, in the midday sun, to fetch cash for a bottle of Haitian Rum!

It is sad, as the Haitian Rum sold there, is 50% of the cost in Miami Beach!
