Taking Cash On A Cruise

Several options:

You can get cash from the casino cashier. It is charged to your sea pass card. They will charge you 5% for the convenience.

On Rhapsody last month, the casino cashier would not give us cash from

our sea pass account. They would only give you chips at the tables from

your account. Not sure if this new policy is on other ships or not.

RC does not allow you to pay for slots using your room card. You must use cash or a cash out ticket. If you see a room card in a slot machine, it's there only to accumulate points for casino perks, not to pay for play.

Thank you for the information. It is helpful in planning for our cruise in July.

One thing I always take in cash now is a pack of one dollar bills (50.00). On

one ship, I tried to get some ones from guest services and they said they did

not have enough to change a 20.00 bill!

We use a lot of the small bills in tips.

I use to bring enough cash so that my wife can bail me out of a foreign prision if needed. USD can fix just about any issue in a foreign country.

Now that I'm older the odds of something happening have decreased. I probably won't be in a bar fight in Cozumel.

I have reduced the amount of cash i take to about 2 or 3 thousand. I usually bring back all the cash I take as we put everything on the SPG Amex credit card. No fees and points that give us a 3% return.

I've had to bring MORE cash as my DH has gotten older for that purpose:eek::eek::D

Couldn't break a $20? Wow!

We do the same as you, the amount varies by the type of trip we are taking and how long we will be gone.

They could break a twenty...but would only give me 5 one dollar bills,

with a five and a ten.

Was the same all week.

Of course I should have realized there is no consistency from ship to ship. ;)

I thought that was odd they would not give me the cash at the cashier

booth.

Also got cash on the MJ in November. Would they have given you a voucher to use in the slots? What if you don't play at the table??

I have read that people have done that and then gone and put the slip in a machine and then played a bit and cashed out or not play at all and just cash out and take that ticket back to the cashier

I was at the roulette table, and they gave me the chips there. Realized too

late, that I could have just walked off with the chips and cashed them in at the

cashier. Duh....

Was trying to cash out my OBC. Had a 300 OBC on Rhapsody, and just couldn't

find anything to use that last 75.00 on...go figure. Casino made sure they

accepted that money. ;)

Bet they are in cahoots with service staff and get a cut of cash tips. ;)

Bring the cash...large bills are easy to carry and the ship can break them down as needed. You will have a safe in the cabin for storage. Split the cash between you and your partner while traveling...and just be aware of your surroundings!

Sometimes folks are spending more than a week on a ship as part of their travel plans. We often travel for 4 or 5 weeks at time with 2 weeks on a ship. I do not want to carry the cash needed for a five week trip!

If we will be gone that long we always start with at least $1000 worth of local currency/ies.

So what do you do for the cruise portion of your travels?

We don't want to carry a lot of cash with us on our cruise. We like to play in the casino so not sure how to do this. What have others done in the past?

What do you consider a lot? I'm sure you will be absolutely fine.

I just trying to understand what this means. Let's say I want to gamble $20 on a slot machine. Can I just put my room card in the machine and charge $20 to my ship account? Is there a 5% fee to do this on RCI? This is what we did on HAL but had no fee.

In my experience, you cannot use the Sea pass card as a method for getting cash money on a machine. If this process is available in any ship, I have not seen it. Usually, one has to put cash in a machine. If I took cash out at the casino cashier (say $100) I will be charged 5% or $5.

Hope this helps.

My advice: put the 5$ & 10$ in the ATM bill changer and it will give you change, including 1$.

That would work, but as others have posted...on many of the ships, the thing

is broken.

Just as I was surprised when I counted on guest services to change out

my 20's for one dollar bills, then they said they could only give me five

of them at a time. PITA

No problem to just go to the bank before our cruise and get a pack of

one dollar bills.
