coconutmonkey Posted January 3, 2017 #1 Share Posted January 3, 2017 Hello. I am new to Norwegian and wanted to know if I can use the ship board credits I got from my TA towards the gratuities for the steward and dining room staff? I have already paid for the 18% service charge for the drinks package at time of making my reservation. Many thanks.
flowers44 Posted January 3, 2017 #2 Share Posted January 3, 2017 Only refundable OBC can be used towards the Daily Service Charge. Any OBC that you get from NCL Promotions or your TA is usually non-refundable OBC. You can check with our TA to be sure. Usually, the only refundable OBC is the OBC that you have purchased before you got on the ship or money that you put on your account while on the cruise. Da-Painter Posted January 3, 2017 #3 Share Posted January 3, 2017 You can go to the customer service/pursers desk, and fill out a form to give an additional gratuity to your room steward, we usually do this at the end of the cruise. They will give you a receipt, but the crew member will not know about it for a few weeks, so you may want to let the individual know you did this while on the ship. A few weeks later when they are notified, they may not remember you. Yes, you can use OBC for this. Your daily service charge covers the crew in the dining rooms. You will have one person seat you, another giving you water, another giving you a menu, another serving, another cleaning, etc. We just let the DSC cover this. Some folks state they leave cash tips, I have never seen anyone doing so. Tips go into the big pot, not to each individual person that serves you. This opens a big can of worms from others that will tell you otherwise. Enjoy:)
sanger727 Posted January 3, 2017 #4 Share Posted January 3, 2017 Nonrefundable OBC cannot be used towards the daily service charge. On my next sailing we received obc from our TA and from the credit card rewards and both are non-refundable. casofilia Posted January 3, 2017 #5 Share Posted January 3, 2017 I agree about the NCL or TA OBC being non-refundable and not being able to be used for the DSC but remember that non-refundable OBC is used BEFORE refundable OBC for purchases on board. coconutmonkey Posted January 3, 2017 Author #7 Share Posted January 3, 2017 If you want you can cash out all the OBC at the casino with a 3% fee. How do I do this? Just show my cruise card and pay the 3% fee at the casino cashier desk or do I need to play the slots and then cash out? Many thanks.
flowers44 Posted January 4, 2017 #8 Share Posted January 4, 2017 You just walk up to the Cashier's Window in the Casino and tell them you want whatever balance in on your card. If it is $100 you will get $97 from the Cashier. Easy as that.
SandyAtSea Posted January 4, 2017 #9 Share Posted January 4, 2017 Has this changed? We were on Gem about a year ago and I don't think there was any way for them to distinguish refundable from non-refundable OBC. We had OBC on our account and it just offset the gratuities (and any other charge on the statement.)
