Wind in Grand Cayman

it can

depends on the direction

winds and sea have seen us have GC cancelled on several winter/spring cruises

and one spring week long dive trip found us diving in 'not the usual places' for the same reason. Sometimes when the seas prevent safe tendering to Georgetown, a couple of ships can use the alternate landing at Spotts Bay on the south side and busses run folks to town. But this anchorage is smaller so if say 5 ships were scheduled only 2 can go here ....

You may get to experience the swimming pools sloshing from end to end. I'm sure the captain will make every effort to land at each port if possible.

Like this on our Mariner cruise from a few years ago:

if ships can see that conditions will be bad they sometimes will shift ports. We've twice been rerouted to Cozumel when the conditions at Cayman stood in the way of safe tendering.

Several factors come into play however including:

- is there room at the inn to even consider the swap

- the plan must be changed early enuf to permit the ship to make the new destination, islands are not exactly a 30 minute drive away from each other; a ship simply can not arrive at Cayman see it is bad and quickly zip to another island the same day.

- can the overall itinerary accommodate the change (distance/time to next port)

unfortunately I've seen pass' get very unruly when a port change was announced. Rather than appreciate the effort they complained about the change because the weather they saw where the ship was then was 'nice', failing to appreciate the master may have been in contact with the port and ships that tried to visit today versus tomorrow and the weather forecast ....
