Leaving for a flight earlier than the cruise allows for transfer.

The first question is whether or not you can handle getting your luggage off the ship yourself which is required for early disembarkation. If you can't, then no, absolutely no chance you will be able to make that flight. You would be much better off moving to a later flight and using the cruise ship transfer.

Given the time constraints, only someone physically fit to carry own luggage and move rapidly should consider what OP wants to do. The fact that recent arrivals have reported getting ashore two hours after scheduled arrival - and not covering a shorter distance than to the airport in sufficient time to make a 10:45 flight answers OP's question.

Sometimes, often?, The two hour check-in policy for international flights means check in must be completed two hours before your flight. That limit might be computer enforced, at least with respect to checked luggage.

OP needs to self disembark. Crazy suggestion, almost as crazy as trying to make the flight. Go home without luggage. Bring old suitcases, or buy cheap bags. Clothing you're almost ready to discard. Clothing you bought in a thrift shop for this trip:)

Almost reads like a troll thread. You need to be able to run out of the cab. That means not even waiting for change. Fare is 10.10 and you only have a twenty. Driver gets a big tip. You not only need AUS but in the appropriate denominations.

As much as many folks would like to think, the US dollar is not a universal currency. Make sure you have Australian money on hand.

We had an incident in Spain where a man was yelling at a clerk because he couldn't pay for his tour in US dollars. Seriously? Do you think anyone in the US would take Euros?

Smooth Sailing! :) :) :)

My husband is an Aussie and Australia is our second home and we almost always fly in and out of Sydney. I'm not sure why you can't fly back on Quantas as that is AA's travel alliance? If you are flying on AAdvantage miles, you should be able to get on a Quantas flight later in the day. Or was this American flight the ONLY thing AA had available that day? The alternative would be to take a later flight up to Brisbane and fly out of there on a later flight. It would cost a bit more, but get you out of Australia that day if that is your desire.
