marne-c Posted January 6, 2017 #1 Share Posted January 6, 2017 When HAL itineraries site a port stop in "Messina, Sicily", does that mean the ship actually docks in Messina? Or does it dock in Giardini Naxos, near Taormina? --Marne
CruiserBruce Posted January 6, 2017 #2 Share Posted January 6, 2017 You dock right in town, in Messina.
SilvertoGold Posted January 6, 2017 #3 Share Posted January 6, 2017 (edited) Messina is the port we have used on HAL in the past. Really a lovely walk-about town, not to be missed, with lots of options for getting to Taormina. Edited January 6, 2017 by SilvertoGold
marne-c Posted January 7, 2017 Author #4 Share Posted January 7, 2017 Thanks for the responses. When my wife and I were last in Sicily (on Oceania), we docked in Giardini Naxos. Now I know to add some time and $$ to our tour plans. --Marne
Stakeout Posted January 8, 2017 #5 Share Posted January 8, 2017 an e-z walk across the street from the port and small terminal building and you're in town
CJcruzer Posted January 8, 2017 #6 Share Posted January 8, 2017 Try to catch the noon time bell tower/astronomical clock performance. It really is quite unusual and fascinating. There is a fabulous sweet shop not far from the main plaza with delicious cannolli (although I have never had a bad cannolli anywhere in Sicily.:p) Taormina and Castelmola are very picturesque destinations, not far away. Try to arrange a private tour so you can maximize your time.
