Birthday on Board

 Share

Recommended Posts

We are taking our first cruise - we will be on Majesty on the 13th. My fiance's birthday is on the 14th. Will the cruise do anything special for him?

I see that I am able to purchase a birthday package, but they look a little cheesy.

Any tips, ideas, or suggestions? Thanks :)

Hi there. :) Many people on board are celebrating something - birthday, anniversary, honeymoon, retirement, family reunion, etc. RCI does not do anything special or specific for birthdays but if you remind your waiter and head waiter, they can see that your fiance gets a dessert with a candle in it. Or you can purchase a cake from the website and it can be delivered to your table or cabin.

Alternatively, to make the evening very special you might want to have dinner in one of the specialty restaurants on board. Many people do this. :)

You could consider packing a few birthday decorations and do-it-yourself. And perhaps order a bottle of wine and chocolate covered strawberries to be waiting in your stateroom upon your arrival. Maybe check shore excursions and surprise him with one that he would really enjoy, or browse the shops on board for a souvenir that he would like (a watch, t-shirt, cap?). And there's always going out on deck and seeing the starry night together. Enjoy your first cruise! :)

They won't do anything special unless you pay for it....nowadays, everyone on board has a "special" occasion....be it birthday, anniversary, graduation, retirement, or whatever.

I would thing the cruise is quite special enough...but maybe I'm just easy to please!

This is what they did for my daughter on Liberty of the Seas in Aug 2015, which was complimernary and we also got decorations for the room, which our cabin stewart decorated while we were at breakfast. We got decorations on the website. Of course my daughter was 12.

We did our first cruise on Voyager last October, our room attendant was very festive always wishing me a happy birthday and I got a great towel art cake and card.

Hubby arranged a dessert with candle at Giovanni's table.

Not sure this is the norm, but this is what I got and I felt special.

If I forewarn the maître d' that someone on my party is celebrating an 18th birthday, will a group of waiters sing Happy Birthday at our table?

(I am already planning a "tour" of the casino and bars for the newly legal drinking age young adult! And the actual celebrations already occured shore side a day before)

Pretty sure "drinking" age is 21 on Royal Ships...not 18...might want to double check before getting the birthday person's hopes up...

best you can hope for is maybe a special desert in the MDR and they will sing to him.

other than that, if you want anything you must do it yourself( at a cost).

at 18 they can gamble. they cannot drink( unless your cruise happens to depart form a non US port) drinking age is 21 on board in most cases.

Received a similar towel cake on a birthday (and NYE) cruise. It was a longer cruise and the cabin attendant commented on the NYE and birthday decorations that we put in the cabin. She also gave me an RCCL tote bag - How nice!

We thanked her with an extra tip and terrific ratings/comments on the survey.

OP - many have commented that the cake available for purchase is very good. We usually go with and standard complementary piece of cake/candle (I am not a big dessert fan any more) and splurge for a special bottle of wine or champagne that evening.

enjoy
