NCL Breakaway Butler Question

So sorry if I missed it in my forum search, but anyone recently been on the Breakaway and had Peter as their butler? If so, any comments?

We were on the Breakaway in Sept and had Ramona as our butler and she was fantastic! Not that we ever really asked for much, but she always went the extra mile and always had a smile on her face. Was really disappointed to find out she in no longer aboard the Breakaway.

Hopefully she will be on our next trip! She has a lot of energy and is quite nice. When we were on the BA they said that they switch rooms every 2 weeks so your chance of getting a specific butler may not happen.

Love Ramona, happy to report that she's traveling in India right now with her new husband (Asst Concierge). Hopefully they will both be back on the ships soon.

I agree with the other poster. Peter is fantastic.

I had him 12/11-12/18 last month. I was traveling with DW and MIL who was using a mobility scooter and remained in the room a good deal of the time. At GSC MIL stayed behind and spent the day with Peter while DW and I were on the island.

He took fantastic care of her.

I gave Peter a letter with our preferences on day 1 (I also sent it to the pre-concierge, but it never made it to him) and he met every one. We rented a recliner from Special Needs At Sea and he rearranged our furniture so that the recliner would be positioned with a view of the sea. He brought us all of the snacks we requested and then some. He fed DW's coffee addiction and even brought our dessert up from Teppanyaki because no human could eat dessert right away after that much food!

Peter and Athena (the Steward) were a perfect complement to Anoop's excellent concierge skills.

Enjoy your cruise!

Two thumbs up. And I agree Anoop rocks!

Peter is very sweet and very prompt. I had a standing order for my morning items and he was always 6:30 am on the dot. I literally could set my watch by him. The people I sailed with drove him mad all week and they were not very appreciative but he was always so pleasant and I made sure to take good care of him at the end.

From now on I get everyone's tip $ on day one.

Thank you for the information! Funny, we had the same situation on our cruise From what I understand, our embarkation was unusual. For some reason boarding was delayed and by the time we started boarding the entire Haven room was jam packed and they were sending people to the overflow room. As a result, we sort of all arrived at the Haven lounge at the same time! Needless to say, the afternoon was hectic so we never even met Ramona until after dinner.

Later in the cruise I noticed there was a family that basically monopolized her every morning (in the hall). They were telling her everything they wanted for that day and when they wanted it and were giving them their order for the next day's breakfast. Even then, she always had a smile on her face and went above and beyond for us the whole week. I'll miss her but looking forward to meeting Peter.

Thank you for taking the time to answer my question. Much appreciated! I sort of expected the butlers to all operate at a high standard, but I'm am relived to hear good things (not that I would ever let it make or break my trip).

I'm also excited to meet Anoop and see what everyone is talking about. On our Sept cruise he was not aboard. We had Patrick and he was fine, did a good job, but was sort of aloof and when you asked him if something was possible he would always say "of course" but in a weird way that made you feel like he thought you were questioning his abilities (if that makes sense). I don't know, I never put my finger on it.

I'd say the NCL butlers and concierges are o.k, not great from our experience. We've had Patrick before and had him on the Gem a few weeks back as he was filling in for Elvina. He was a bit quieter this time around and we only asked for a couple reservations which he gladly took care of. We've actually found him to be one of the better concierges.

You will love Anoop and Rogin (Assistant Concierge, previous top notch butler), Also you may wind up getting Nelson as your butler who is an absolute doll also. Truth be told I was not to impressed with the Haven employees on the Gem last year, they cannot compare the Haven crew on the Breakaway and I was the Garden Villa. I never heard the word no so many times as I did on that cruise in all of my BA cruises put together.

We had Romona and she was excellent. Always had a smile and would do anything for you. She was fantastic and prompt with all the meals we wanted in the room.

Anoop was excellent to. I felt he went out of his way to get what we wanted. We asked him for shows and meals at the last minute and he made it happen.

Hmmmm I was on the Gem in the Garden Villa and never heard the word no not even once. Guess it depends on the attitude of the passenger. If you are polite it gets you everything if your are nasty gets you a no to everything

I guess you forgot that none of our requests were taken care of even with multiple emails between us & the concierge or the butler bringing us menus and then saying no we cannot order from them. We also were not able to order in from O'Sheehans. We also had to show the Concierge the website showing we could smoke on our deck. I doubt highly we were the 1st passengers to smoke. I treat every employee very well as you know but I did find the service lacking on the Gem.

Newbie here.

We've only done Balcony Cabins. :o

Considering Suites for our next cruise.

Aboard ship, what's the difference between Butlers and Concierges ?

I've read several posts that mentions things they request Butlers/Concierge for.

Could you give me examples of items/things/requests passengers commonly requests ?

TIA !!! :)

Regarding the differences between butlers and concierges, I got the best tip on this site before my first trip. Basically, the butler handles anything you need/want/require/inquire inside your cabin. For anything outside your cabin you go to the concierge.

Thanks for your "easy-to-remember" tip!

Something I'll less likely forget.

Howdy !

In non-suite cabins, food delivery is pretty limited.

We've ordered "Continental Breakfasts" (Coffee, Tea, Croissants, Butter and Jelly, etc.).

How extensive are the food options in suites ?

TIA

It is supposed to be anything from anywhere on the ship and that has always been the case for me on the Breakaway, the Gem not so much. Like I said above we planned a dinner in and the butler gave us menus, we ordered, then he comes back and says no you can't order from that menu and gives us different menus which sucked cause once I order something and then have to switch the other meal will never taste as good.

Yup... Sucks !

Depending on my mood, I may ask when handed a different menu:

  • Are you sure I can order anything from this menu ?

BTW:

Some Ships/Butlers un-pack and hang your clothes in closets or put them in drawers.

Is that standard protocol on any of your cruises.

PS:

We would NOT like that.

I did and got a flat out no.

I know if asked they would do it, but I never would. I like doing my own stuff so I know where everything is. What makes sense to them may not make sense with me.

For unpacking, in my experience the butler has been willing to do that if asked, but has never offered. I've never felt the need myself.

The butler and steward have folded and neatly stacked clothes that I've left strewn on chairs/tables. I appreciate that because I try to be tidy but hey, I'm on vacation!

Yes I remember both you and I both emailed pre concierge and when we boarded they were clueless about it and had to tell them exactly what we wanted I also agree you treat the staff very generously with tips. What I disagree with is I remember a few times ordering burgers for lunch and it was delivered. Where it came from I have no idea but I'm sure if I asked for chicken wings they would have brought them. And yes Monica the concierge said no smoking and we had to show her Ncl's website where it says it's allowed. The butler was fine. You have to remember there were 7 women and a few who came and used the villa so we ran him a bit ragged. Yes he rolled his eyes when we were in the jacuzzi and asked him to bring us towels. He did put up a lot with us. Now on my last cruise on the Jade last month in the garden villa the concierge was so so amazing. He found us no matter where we were every day just to check on us. The butler was "ok" he was pleasant and did everything we asked him to nothing ever above and beyond like the butler on the Gem. Remember our last dinner in suite? How he decorated the table? It was lovely. We did in suite dining our last night on the Jade and no rose pedals nothing extra.

I agree he did a beautiful job decorating the table, it really was gorgeous but the whole here's a menu, place your order, wait no I take that back, order from here really was a turn off and it would not have happened on the BA, the butlers on the BA would never have done that. Everyone's order would have been fulfilled the way we originally ordered it.

I could have ordered burgers from the room service menu but all I wanted that night was a fajita and no matter who I called they would not bring it to me. I have ordered them from the butler on the BA multiple times with no issues.

I did forget about everyone telling me about the whole roll the eyes thing and you have to admit that was very off-putting and unprofessional oh his part. I guess after having such great service from the butlers on the BA i just found the Gem guy ...underwhelming.
