What happens to your luggage when you take an excursion right after you get off the ship at the end of the cruise?

If it is a cruise line excursion, your baggage usually goes with you on a bus or other vehicle.

If you use a ship excursion, your luggage goes with you. They generally use large buses which have luggage compartments underneath. The excursion will normally finish at the airport which is specified in the explanation. You may end up at the airport several hours before your flight, but the luggage will arrive with you.

The above is generally true for US turnaround ports.

 

But in Europe and South America, where in some ports there are several different all-day disembark tours as most flights home are in the evening, often the luggage for every tour bus is loaded onto a single truck that meets you at the airport at the end of your tour.

The description of the post Cruise Excursion through Vancouver in the Excursion catalog on the cruise line website for Holland America indicates that the luggage will find its way to a pickup location at the airport. It says something about needing to claim our luggage from this Cruise Line pickup location by 5 p.m. (That'll probably work out well for us since we are probably going to end up on a red-eye home.) I'm sure things are different at other cities and with other Cruise Lines.
