AIBP Not For Us

Crazy, when 4 of us cruise, we get 2 aibp's and hammer them, with multiple drink orders, by 2 people for 4.Plus a nod a wink and slip a bit of coinage here and there,its all good. By the time 4 days is up we have more than broke-even.

Plus with rum-runners we sure are on a winner.

Easy as.:)

When I started this thread I was convinced the AIBP is not for us. After reading through the posts I'm beginning to waver on it. The final bill is always sticker shock. I think not planning around the BOGO happy hour would be another for us.

 

I think the next cruise will either be with the AIBP and keep the late dinner seating or start and end the day earlier with 3PM BOGO and the early dinner seating. ATD might be another option but we like the same wait staff and the better table location a suite normally gets you.

 

At any rate this has got me thinking again as we look to book our next cruise.

If your cruise has a lot of days off the ship you've got to do some heavy drinking on the other days to make up for it. :D

My wife likes to try new drinks. She doesn't always like them. It used to cost me a fortune because she might have 2 or 3 drinks before she found one she liked. I'm very happy that I can prepay and not worry about drink specials or a bill at the end.

Of course we never buy water and never buy soda. We do buy a coffee card but those are pretty cheap...

If you have the AIBP does it appear as a daily charge on your shipboard account?

 

Do they still swipe your card but then credit you back the amount like they do for the suite laundry?

 

It would be next to impossible to figure out if the AIBP was worth it to you if the drink amounts don't show up on your shipboard account.

I can drink a lot... but would never buy the package. If it's part of a promo and makes economic sense, that's a different matter. However, I may not enjoy the cruise as much because I'd be hungover every morning. ;)

Good on you being open to consider the change. Another thing to consider is the itinerary. If it is Port heavy and you plan on getting off then it might have less value for you. If you are someone that stays on the ship - well - it's likely a great deal.

A port intensive itinerary is like a gold mine for Princess if passengers purchase the AIBP. They must really love that. ) We have it for a 14 day cruise next year that only has 4 sea days. We got it as a perk - as I have said, we won't ever pay for it - but anybody who did buy it for the cruise is almost certain to come out behind financially.

If money is all that it's about then you are probably not going to purchase. As I've stated, I do it for convenience and to eliminate the bill at the end. I love being able to get a vanilla latte with baileys in the morning. My wife loves mimosas with breakfast. Grab 2 1 liter bottles of water on the way off the ship. To each his own. I'm self employed and vacation for me costs a lot more in lost revenue than actual expenses. For that reason I rarely get a vacation without kids. I'm not going to worry about getting what I want and with the package I don't have to worry about the bill at the end.

I don't 'get it'. And where's the convenience? With or without the package, everything is 'automatic' - all you do is show your card; you don't even sign a chit anymore.

Money is the last thing I want to think about. I'm pretty sure it is a close call on money for us. I just prefer the convenience of not having to pay in the end. Shoot me it's my preference

I agree with you 100%! We are recently retired and when we worked, we would go to only the high-end all-inclusive: resorts in the Caribbean and Mexico. Pay one price upfront and then say "forget about it"!

We have worked all of our lives and when we go on vacation, I never want to see, or think about a bill!

I do NOT drink alcohol or soft drinks or coffee BUT my husband drinks single malt scotches, bourbons,etc and decent wine and the occasional beer. The AIBP for him is a no-brainer.

These "BOGO"s are a waste of time for us, when we for for a pre-dinner drink, we want it to be "pre-dinner" NOT at 4PM or at 9PM!

Each to their own. We only cruise when it is the best way to see what we want to see, and that is very seldom.(Alaska, Cape Horn, Bermuda, Tahiti)

On the contrary, we are thanking those who pay top dollar for their drinks without AIBP.

WE would drink $59 worth each in the first 2 hours a day, any-day, every-day. So Thank-you.:):)

 

On last figures we would crank down $100 plus drinks each, for $59 each. Sweet as Bro.
