Left behind piece of luggage beware

Big difference between it going missing at the port and accidentally leaving it behind. Apples and oranges.

Granted, but the point I was trying to make was that I was told over and over that I would have to pay to have my bag shipped to me just like the OP who accidently left his behind. What I was told, that I didn't include in my long-winded post was that I asked the people at Royal why I had to pay for shipping when it was not my fault. They told me that they did not make a distinction between accidently leaving your bag and having it stolen or misplaced. It was all the same to them.

Interesting. I had a similar situation with Disney a few years ago. I got home and noticed in the chaos of loading up my car on the curb I had accidentally grabbed an extra bag that wasn't mine

Called their lost and found number, they told me the people had already called about the missing bag, and that this happens surprisingly often "multiple times per month" is what she said.

Next day Fedex picked up the bag from my house and shipped it to the owners in Utah. (I was in Alabama) Disney paid for the shipping but I was willing to pay it if necessary since it was my fault.

I wonder if RC would do the same if the bag hadn't needed to be shipped internationally?

I found it to be a very confusing and frustrating end to a nice cruise.

You had every right to be upset, as there is a clear difference between your situation and that of the OP. I've had bags delayed several times for one reason or another when flying and have waited at the airport carousel in vain. I just had to fill out a form at the luggage counter and when the missing bag finally appeared at the airport, it has been forwarded to my home - or to my hotel once in Paris - with absolutely no charge. This is a process that RCI should adopt: if you report a bag missing at the pier, it should be forwarded at no charge.

That would be stealing!

CruisinNole...agree not a good way to end a Cruise. I also believe like at the airport baggage claim carousels there are some travelers that will grab the first bag that looks like theirs and be on their way. Then realize the one they grabbed is not theirs, drop it anywhere convenient to them and go back empty handed to look for and retrieve theirs.

Got off the Oasis of the seas Jan 15 with DW and 2D-GD .WIth all the chaos of picking up luggage, going threw customs. We had a shuttle waiting for us,going to Disney area hotel,we forgot a carry on bag at the pier. Was informed from home when arrived at hotel,to call pier. Was informed that they could not ship to hotel,by Wednesday the 18.Informed because reside in Cananda it had to go threw corporate office in Miami. The lady said she could not do anything till Monday, needed credit card at no time, did she inform me,what shipping charges would be. The suitcase arrived by fedex before us.The waybill charge was $249. U.S.When contacted Royal Carribean customer service, not supportive in this matter

Glad you got your suitcase back.

But what is to "beware" of and why is it the fault of the cruise line?

We had a piece of luggage missing when we went to pick it up at debarkation. We had suite/pinnacles luggage tags on it,and we were among the the first off the ship, as we were being held escorted off but the concierge. We filed a report at the pier, and were told it could take up to a week to find it, as all luggage left would go to their warehouse. They found it and shipped it to us at their expense. The tags were still attached, and I don't think anyone else please picked up by mistake as we were about the first ones off. I guess stuff happens, but I was very glad to get it back.

If luggage is left behind, why would Royal pay for the shipping? It's not their fault.

When flying to Rio (two flights on different airlines/one ticket), my first flight was late and they rerouted me for the second flight. The second flight airline made me sign something to agree that if my bag didn't make the flight it was not their responsibility.

My bag didn't make the second flight but despite signing the bit of paper, once I landed, found out the bag wasn't there and filled out another form, the second airline arranged for my bag to be delivered to my hotel at no charge. They even sent me a tracking number to watch when the bag was located, which flight it arrived on and when it would be delivered to the hotel.

That is great customer service and the airlines seem to have this worked out!

Why is this their fault?

The OP never said it was RCI's fault. You are so quick to judge and I would expect better from a 10K poster. Way to jump on a new poster. Hindsight is always 20/20 but I am sure the OP did not think the shipping charges would be so high. I think he is just warning others to make sure you ask what the charges would be before so you can make an informed decision.

Last year we forgot an envelope of pictures on the bus that we purchased on the ship and I realized it as soon as we arrived at our hotel. I filled our the paperwork for the lost item and I received a call from the local Alaska office of Princess and they send me the package no charge. Granted it was much smaller but a nice touch.

I left one of my bags behind and did not notice until we got out of the taxi at our hotel. I went right back to the pier it was about 9:30 I had to wait until everyone was off the ship about 12:30 and then they brought out the left behind bags to be claimed. So always be sure you have all your bags before leaving the customs hall as there is no way to get back in

Apparently you shouldn't have. I was one of several who said basically the same

Airlines can fly a bag to the correct location for "free" they just put it on the next flight. Cruise lines don't have that option.

Never would have thought $249 to ship a bag wonder how much it costs to ship a bag in the US.

I agree the royal should have told you ahead of time how much it costs to ship a bag.

Cost us something like $75 to have one shipped to us from SC to NC.
