adlesa Posted January 29, 2017 #1 Share Posted January 29, 2017 Back in September when we booked for the February 2nd cruise, I researched and carefully selected balcony cabin 7423 on Empress Deck (best deck). When they switched from the Liberty to the Valor, they moved us to cabin 6408 on the Upper Dec (worst deck). I've called and the ship is sold out, so they can't move us (if they even would) and they refuse to do anything to compensate for the change (even though they charge to select a cabin instead of being assigned randomly). Our travel agent won't do anything either, since it was out of their control. They suggested checking with customer service when we get on board and that they may give us on-board credit. I've been ticked off about it, though, and don't want to continue to be ticked off if there's no chance they'll do anything. I've never been on a Carnival cruise before (have been on NCL, Holland, Princess, and Royal), but I've heard their customer service isn't good. Thoughts???? Should I just let it go? Is the Upper Deck really that much louder? Is the concierge service on the Empress really that much better? Thanks!!!
bobandsherry Posted January 29, 2017 #2 Share Posted January 29, 2017 For what it's worth, we've noted no difference on Upper versus Empress. Not sure of layout of Valor but just look at deck plans to see what is above and below your specific room. If just other rooms then all will be good. Enjoy the cruise. riffatsea Posted January 29, 2017 #3 Share Posted January 29, 2017 There are no cabins below you on the Valor. It is hard to tell if you are over the video arcade or part of the dance club. I would not be happy with that location either. Did you have to accept the change or could you have switched to other dates with more availability?? Sorry this happened but I bet there were lots of other people who also got switched and you have no status with the cruise line if this is your first Carnival cruise. klfrodo Posted January 29, 2017 #4 Share Posted January 29, 2017 Is the concierge service on the Empress really that much better? Thanks!!! What concierge service are you talking about? I've never heard of such a thing on Carnival

adlesa Posted January 29, 2017 Author #6 Share Posted January 29, 2017 We're right above the dance club. I can have white noise, but that doesn't drown out thumping :( But, we'll go and have a great time!!!

riffatsea Posted January 29, 2017 #8 Share Posted January 29, 2017 I also don't know of any "concierge service"???? What are you expecting in that regard???
cruizinisthebest Posted January 29, 2017 #9 Share Posted January 29, 2017 We like deck 6. No complaints about it. And yes I think that's messed up they changed your cabin. But there's little you can do about it now. Who knows what's going on with the party that is in that cabin. It certainly isn't worth being upset about it any longer. Just go and enjoy yourself! springs741 Posted January 29, 2017 #10 Share Posted January 29, 2017 I understand about carefully choosing your stateroom. I am picky about location as well. My only questions is why have you waited until now to questions your new location? Those changes were completed two months ago. While you might not have been able to get your first choice, there should have been something else available. Also you mentioned a TA. Did Carnival suspend their rules for the switch over? Usually when you have a cruise booked thru a TA it is against Carnivals policy to speak with the passenger. And why is it out of your TA's hands? Their job is to be your advocate. Your TA should be working to get you a some compensation for the less desirable location. I hope your cruise is enjoyable and all this worry was for naught. Mtngal33 Posted January 29, 2017 #11 Share Posted January 29, 2017 We have booked cabin 6416 three times on the Freedom because it's only one floor up from the Promenade, and is always quiet. The "dance club" below is usually used for the kids club, and they have to be picked up by midnight, so we have never had a problem with noise. Hopefully, you'll have the same experience on the Valor.
wranglerguy Posted January 29, 2017 #12 Share Posted January 29, 2017 Never had or heard of different quality of service on different decks. Have stayed in all types of cabins. From interior on the Rivera deck to penthouse suite. All where great, if I had to pick one that was bad I would say it was on Valor in a penthouse suite. He did a great job but never saw him. We knew he was there but never actually talked to him. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Sharonlee912 Posted February 3, 2017 #14 Share Posted February 3, 2017 We too, carefully picked 2 balcony cabins on deck 8 for our granddaughters first cruise. When they switched us, we were 150 cabins apart and after several phone calls are 3 cabins apart deck 6 :( . They told us to keep calling back but every time, they tell us they are sold out and there is nothing they can do. It is disappointing when you pick out the perfect cabins, pay in full and then get shuffled....only to have a salesperson tell you "well you don't spend that much time in your cabin anyhow!" I think after 20 years of cruising, I know how much time I spend in a cabin....just don't want little ones running up and down the hall to their parents. Carnival didn't care. Sharonlee912 Posted February 3, 2017 #15 Share Posted February 3, 2017 p.s. We have sailed on the Valor out of San Juan and loved the ship. We will have fun no matter what! Happy cruising!
ItsAllAboutTheSass Posted February 3, 2017 #16 Share Posted February 3, 2017 My question is that you have never been on a Carnival Cruise but you are labeling the upper deck as the "worst deck". How would you know that? And concierge service??
IslandSliderGirl Posted February 3, 2017 #17 Share Posted February 3, 2017 The Liberty/Valor switch impacted a lot of people. We were on the last sailing of Valor out of Port Canaveral before her reposition to Galveston. Our 4 day was cut down to a 3 day....:( We obviously weren't happy to lose a day on what was a short cruise to begin with, but we opted to take the cruise instead of cancel. It seems people unwillingly get caught in these switches sometimes and get a curveball thrown at them. I would suggest you continue to contact your TA since it is their job to advocate for you. The GOOD news is that Valor is a great ship and you will have a fantastic time on your cruise. I hope you are able to get your cabin changed to what you feel is a more desirable location. If you can't, I hope you are able to look forward to, and enjoy your time on Valor.

Probably didn't see him because he was busy doing a great job for all his cabins. If he is needed he can be paged.

I hope they compensated you some money when they switched you because deck 1 is the cheapest category other than 1A. Bill
xeroxme Posted February 18, 2018 #20 Share Posted February 18, 2018 Carnival customer service tries hard in my opinion. I have been on a couple of rough sea port delay cruises and carnival was more than fair and did what they could. I'm sure they would have with you also. I think you will still have a great cruise. Carnival will be a different experience than Hal or princess or Norwegian etc. but I like the energy carnival has. Is the Upper Deck really that much louder? Is the concierge service on the Empress really that much better? 6408 appears to be port side aft, just in front of the aft elevators. There shouldn't be noise from below at that point. If the OP was on the other starboard side of the ship they would be near the piano bar, whose noise can disturb early sleepers. OP, enjoy your cruise, your cabin location is not a cause for concern. The upper deck cabins to avoid, IMO, are above the comedy club, the piano bar and the casino band/bar area. Alaskan Joe Posted February 18, 2018 #22 Share Posted February 18, 2018 Looking for the OP to see how their cruise/cabin was? Did you end up getting any OBC? What is your thoughts on Carnival having never sailed? Was room above the dance club? Lastly, how was your concierge service:D.
