At what age can children get a room card? Or is every passenger required to have one?

Every passenger gets one because it is scanned when they get off/on ship at ports to keep track of passengers. At ports it is also needed to get through port security to get to the ship.

speaking of ID. at port when you check in. everyone gets their pic taken so it shows up on the computer.

so WHY do you need a license etc when getting back on the ship? if key pic shows up as you, its you! your pic taken this week is much more recent than your DL

Port security does not have access to the ship security system. Port security wants to verity the name on the ship key card is the same as your license/passport. Without an id to verity the name, you may not be allowed to enter the terminal/gangway area.

You do not need a license etc to get back onto the ship. You just need your key card. HOWEVER in some ports you need your photo id to show to port authority security so you can get to the ship. The port security officers do not have access to the ship photo scans and the security folks are responsible that only passengers are allowed access to the ship.

Some port security officers simply make sure you have a key card, but at some ports they also check your photo id.
