fishywood Posted February 22, 2017 #6 Share Posted February 22, 2017 The passage contract leaves the door open for the ship to decide once it leaves US waters: No Guest under the age of 21 may purchase, possess or consume alcohol during the Cruise. No Guest under the age of 18 shall be permitted to engage in any gaming activities on board any ship or to purchase cigarettes or tobacco products. On some sailings the minimum age for alcohol is under 21 and each Guest agrees to abide by whatever alcohol age restriction is in place on the ship during the Guest's cruise. But in the Asia/Australia version of the passage contract you find this bit of info: For all vessels sailing from Japanese ports, the minimum age for gambling and drinking alcohol is 20 years or older. For all cruises originating from Australian or Asian ports other than Japan, as well as sailing round trip from Southampton, the minimum drinking and gambling age is 18 years or older. I know that on several different lines for westbound transatlantics from Southampton to the USA the drinking age is 18 until the ship reaches US waters. Not sure this applies to Princess, or that the reverse is done for eastbound TAs. But since there is an on the record exception for round-trip cruises from Britain there may be a compromise for one way cruises as permitted in the contract (which has been reported in the past for Med cruises). Or not.
Pam in CA Posted February 22, 2017 #7 Share Posted February 22, 2017 In Europe it's 18 so I was wondering when it changesI believe European cruises sailing from Southampton are 18yo. Otherwise, 21yo. Trans-Atlantics are definitely 21yo regardless of where they sail from.
