penwah2002 Posted March 10, 2017 #1 Share Posted March 10, 2017 Sailing on the Gem in September in a two bedroom suite. Have the suites been refurbished, and if so what were the changes? Being in a suite, not the Haven will we be able to have breakfast and lunch at Cagney's? With a suite, is there priority embarkation? We are platinum. We usually sail in the Haven but we are going with family and they prefer just suites, :o I do understand we won't have access to the Haven but it sounds like you get the amenities for the most part. Any information would be greatly appreciated.
triptolemus Posted March 10, 2017 #2 Share Posted March 10, 2017 I'm not sure about any refurbishments. You will have breakfast and lunch in Cagney's / Moderno... whichever venue they're using for this. There will be priority embarkation, priority check-in, priority disembarkation. You've got it right... Non-Haven suites get all the suite perks with the exception of Haven access and the free booze/soda that the high-tier suites get. Rare BirdTravels Posted March 10, 2017 #3 Share Posted March 10, 2017 Sailing on the Gem in September in a two bedroom suite.Congratulations! Have the suites been refurbished, and if so what were the changes? The Gem did it's "Norwegian Edge" refirb in November 2015. New carpets, drapes, beds, furniture (maybe counters and tiles). Being in a suite, not the Haven will we be able to have breakfast and lunch at Cagney's? Usually Moderno, they use the salad bar for the cold breakfast items. Yes, you can eat there for breakfast and lunch. With a suite, is there priority embarkation? We are platinum. There will be a separate suites check-in and the concierge staff will escort you onboard (exactly the same as the Havens guest). We usually sail in the Haven but we are going with family and they prefer just suites, :o So do we. I do understand we won't have access to the Haven but it sounds like you get the amenities for the most part. It's exactly the same as being in a Havens room. You get the restaurant, the concierge, the butler, all of the Haven's perks. You just don't get access to the [very small] Havens courtyard. You will be invited to all of the Havens parties. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Have a wonderful cruise!
njhorseman Posted March 10, 2017 #4 Share Posted March 10, 2017 Responses saying that the Gem had its suites refurbished during the "Norwegian Edge" drydock aren't true. As of our most recent Gem cruise in December 2016, the suites (and for that matter other cabins) had not received any significant refurbishment... furniture had not been replaced for example. There have been subsequent reports that cabins are only now undergoing gradual refurbishment while the ship is in service. In December they were using Moderno for the suite/Haven breakfast service and Cagney's for the suite/Haven lunch service.
Rare Turtles06 Posted March 10, 2017 #5 Share Posted March 10, 2017 The non-Haven suites on the Gem were *not* refurbished during the Nov. 2015 dry dock. We sailed in an aft-facing Penthouse on the Gem in Feb. 2016; only the carpet was new, but NCL left the original tacky furnishings, which were now worn and dated as well as tacky. Also still there were the garish, bordello-worthy drapes. I posted about this (with photos) shortly after our cruise, here: http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=2314292 I've read on some recent posts that NCL has been re-doing staterooms in small groups on the Gem while the ship is underway. I don't know whether that includes the suites, but they sure need a re-do! [Edited to add: njhorseman types faster!]
