We do it all the time. I get soda packages for both DH and DS and couple bottles of booze for the room. That way DH gets drinks mixed to his satisfaction, DS gets mocktails and I get 3 bottles of wine for myself.

We haven't done this but it would be crazy to think that it isn't done by others all the time. If it works for you then I say go for it. You will either find that its a good solution for you or you will find that you don't want to deal with it in the future. The important thing is to enjoy yourself.
