kelbell Posted March 17, 2017 #1 Share Posted March 17, 2017 So we are a party of 6, ages 25 to 56. We are currently booked on Allure Feb 18th 2018, out of Port Everglades. I am contemplating changing to Anthem same week out of Cape Liberty (N.J). Thinking may save us some $$$ on airfare and hotel, since we live in Mass. We have never been on either ship. We have never been to the Bahamas in Feb. hows the weather? Or to cocay island? The good, the bad, the ugly, anyone?
Clarea Posted March 17, 2017 #2 Share Posted March 17, 2017 The biggest difference will be the weather. If you choose Allure, you will be in warm weather from the start to the end of the cruise. If you choose Anthem, then you will be indoors on the ship for the first and last 1.5 days or so.

And I don't think I'd like boarding the ship in my winter coat. I can't speak to anything else though. Sailing out of Bayonne is easy, just a 4 hour drive to port, though we do come in the night before just in case. Sailing from the north in winter is different than sailing out of Florida. We wanted to try it and we did enough our cruise but be prepared to be inside for at least the first and last days. It was in the 80's in Port Canaveral and 70's at Coco Cay. Nassua was in the 80's. Not sure of water temps as my DH is recovering from surgery, so walking on sand was not going to happen. Tendering was also a long process at Coco Cay, with the later tender tickets not being called until after noontime. You really have to think about what is important to your family. If beaches and hot weather is what you are looking for, go with Allure. If it is something different, try Anthem. We have Allure booked for May and are really looking forward to that cruise as Oasis class is our favorite. If you book Anthem for February, make sure you look at school vacation weeks since MA and other New England states have President's Day week off, but New Hampshire and others have the week after. Our sailing was 2/26 and there were over 1,000 kids on the ship.

Being this will be the first cruise for our sons GF. Next time Jersey here we come....:) I think that's the best choice. Instant nice weather from day 1. We loved Anthem but I would still worry about the seas/weather on the first and last days especially given what happened to Anthem last year. Also, since Anthem has dropped Dynamic Dining, I would find the dining experience underwhelming on Anthem in one of the smaller dining rooms compared to the big dining room on Allure. ljmandelbaum Posted March 17, 2017 #7 Share Posted March 17, 2017 We switched allure for anthem this past February. We got very lucky weather wise. we didn't take winter jackets. Very different from Feb 2016 when we cruised out of Baltimore leaving in 10 degree weather.
