Princess Transatlantic cruse in April

Has anyone taken this cruise and if so, how was the weather and ocean when out to sea?

We have done two Princess Transatlantics. The first was from Fort Lauderdale to the Mediterranean. The sea was like glass and it was warm. That was a late April cruise.

 

We have also traveled from England to NYC in September. The seas around Iceland were pretty rugged and it was cold.

 

I have no idea if either of these would be considered normal!

Did the Regal last April and weather was fair. Cold in Oslo but when finished in Berlin was in shorts. Seas were calm. Made all our ports. Great TA. Doing it again next month.

We have. Never used our balcony except in ports. Too cold and windy.

As you can read it'll vary...we've had smooth seas & temperatures around 70 degrees crossings via the Azores and another time on a North Atlantic route had to change course for much better weather on the southerly route via the Azores due to a large North Atlantic storm.

What cruise and itinerary. There is a big difference from doing an April crossing between Florida and Lisbon....versus a crossing from Florida to Amsterdam. We have done many crossings (several dozen) including quite a few in April and experienced all kinds of weather from glassy seas to 40 foot seas, warm comfy days to chilly/rainy days. Our favorite April crossing was when Princess had their "Three Continent Cruise" which took a southern route down to the Caribbean, over to Dakar and then up to Portugal. Our worst weather was on an April Crossing (with RCI) from Ft Lauderdale to Amsterdam (first Euopean port was Cobh). For warming weather the odds favor a more southern route (such as to the Canaries rather then the Azores). Sea Conditions are impossible to predict.

Thanks for your responses. The cruise we were looking at is the British Isle from Ft Lauderdale that leaves April 6.

Thats really early. Weather over and in Europe may be cooler and wetter than late April.

We did a Tampa to Southampton via Norfolk Virginia and Cobb in May. Had the first summer named storm on day two off Florida and an Atlantic storm off Ireland. You can't predict the weather.

No one can predict the weather.

All of us on the April 19th crossing on Royal out of Fort Lauderdale are hoping for nice weather. First port is Madeira, Funchal.

And that is the correct answer.

 

We were on one spring TA and the weather was perfect all the way. The seas were so calm that we had to look outside at the water to make sure we were actually moving.

 

But the Captain made an announcement one day that another Princess ship was three days ahead of us on the same route and had stormy weather and rough seas the entire time.

We did it last year about the same time, and the warmest weather was in FLL!! The crossing was cool to chilly, not surprising since the Atlantic water temp is still in the winter mode!! When we got to the other side of the pond, it was cool and damp. Sunny at times, but quite a few cloudy days. We stayed on the ship and did the British Isles itinerary too, and jackets and rain gear was definitely needed.

IMO, packing would call for a bit of warm weather attire, and plenty of long pants, long sleeve tops, socks, along with a jacket and or sweatshirt and a waterproof hooded windbreaker.
