SF Posted March 21, 2017 #1 Share Posted March 21, 2017 What time did it say on your itinerary you would arrive and what time did they actually start letting people off? Did they do the immigration on board prior to arriving in Melbourne as there are usually two sea days prior or did they do it that morning? Beanb41 Posted March 21, 2017 #2 Share Posted March 21, 2017 There was no immigration requirement when we arrived in Melbourne from Sydney. The gangway was open approx. half and hour after arrival as is normal. The ship arrived on time as programmed. It would be unusual for a ship not to arrive on time. Things that may delay arrival are a breakdown or adverse sea conditions

You probably boarded in Sydney and ended up in Auckland and we're boarding in Auckland and ending in Sydney. Since you said the gangway was opened a half hour after arriving I'm hoping like I've read on other threads that immigration will be done the two see days prior this way we'll be able to make the tour for 9:30. Hopefully someone will be able to let me know who left from Auckland.
Rare MicCanberra Posted March 21, 2017 #4 Share Posted March 21, 2017 My cruise was from Sydney as well, so cannot help with that.
Rare OzKiwiJJ Posted March 22, 2017 #5 Share Posted March 22, 2017 We've done Auckland to Sydney with a stop in Hobart, twice, and the immigration was done onboard during the Tasman crossing both times - the first of those two sea days I think. Most online itineraries show the expected arrival time at a port. We're doing another Solstice cruise in 2019 that stops at Melbourne and the itinerary is showing an arrival time of 8am. If yours is the same then 9:30am should be OK for your tour.
The_Big_M Posted March 22, 2017 #6 Share Posted March 22, 2017 I did that sector on Millennium. Clearance was done on the sailing over. As above, clearance occurred at the expected times, in line with most other ports.
SF Posted March 22, 2017 Author #7 Share Posted March 22, 2017 Solstice arrives in Melbourne at 9 a.m. but we're thinking if we are in line early enough we should be okay to disembark at 9:30 as there's no tendering involved.
Beanb41 Posted March 22, 2017 #8 Share Posted March 22, 2017 If customs / immigration clearance is required then Celebrity will bring the appropriate customs / immigration officers on board prior to arrival. The delay in going ashore is principally the crew getting the gangways set up and clearance from quarantine officers. The sooner these are done the sooner we get ashore
