Years before I became a fan of craft brewing, Stone started a series of limited release beers that departed from their traditional methods in that they were brewed using ingredients other than the basic water, yeast, grain and hops. The first was released on 02/02/02 and continued annually threough 12/12/12. My eyes were opened to the world of specialty beers about the time they released 10/10/10 and Stone was one of the reasons I abandoned "fizzy yellow beer" and started appreciating what craft brews had to offer. They are re-releasing the most popular of the series and I plan on participating in this review of their part in the rise of American beers from boring to the best in the world.
