Drazil65 Posted March 29, 2017 #27 Share Posted March 29, 2017 I guess we do when we pay for our balcony or OS cabin on each cruise and it is so worth it for us. That being said, I/we have never had a problem finding a lounger on Lido somewhere when we choose to be up there, we prefer to be well away from the pool so plenty of chairs elsewhere. bar1068 Posted March 29, 2017 #28 Share Posted March 29, 2017 No, No, and NO! Lounge chair hogging only seems to take place in the pool area. It's too noisy there, and there are plenty of available lounge chairs in other areas. And I'll let you in on a little secret, but you have to promise not to tell anyone else. The lounge chairs on the deck above the Lido deck get the exact same sunlight as the chairs on the Lido deck. Shhh! Don't tell anybody. Boy...there really is so much that can be learned on this site....thanks so much for sharing...and I'll be sure to keep the secret.....:halo:
hotsauce126 Posted March 29, 2017 #29 Share Posted March 29, 2017 Maybe its because of the time of year I cruise but I have a hard time finding a chair anywhere, not just near the pool. Its different if I get out there at like 7am, but who wants to lay out then, especially when you're on vacation?
Rare crewsweeper Posted March 29, 2017 #30 Share Posted March 29, 2017 Chair hoggin isn't limited to the pool side loungers. Serenity decks, especially the clam shells and hammocks, get their share of hogs too. Upper Lido decks, shady spots in the afternoon, etc. all have their "fair" share. But I've never had an issue finding somewhere to park it. And I certainly wouldn't pay for any lounger.
mrpayroll Posted March 29, 2017 #31 Share Posted March 29, 2017 I just sit in any chair that has a towel nicely folded or a book or a flip flop. If and when a person comes i just say," here you can use this one, i'm finished".
Je Souhaite Posted March 29, 2017 #32 Share Posted March 29, 2017 I read lots of chair hog this site but i heard about someone offering $$ to someone to reserve lido pool seats loungers...would you pay? If so how much rental? There are more chairs than passengers, free, so why would one suggest to pay for one?

Its different if I get out there at like 7am, but who wants to lay out then, especially when you're on vacation? Exactly! A lot of posters on this thread are talking about getting away from the pool area and the craziness. I like the pool area and the craziness. I would love to be able to get up at my leisure (afterall it is MY vacation), go to the gym, back to the cabin to shower, brunch, then out to the lido about 10:00/10:30 and know that I will have a prime location around the pool. That would never happen on a normal sea day unless you "save seats" with towels, clips, etc. or have someone from your party out there saving seats for you. So I know this isn't the popular answer but yes I would pay for this convenience!
shellster1 Posted March 29, 2017 #34 Share Posted March 29, 2017 No way would I pay "someone" to save a chair for me, if that is the question....but...ok, here it comes: I would pay for a chair if a cruise line offered them!!:o I know, I know! It's awful!!! I'm a terrible person!! But here's the thing: I cruise with my son and he hates the kids club, so I have never been to any "adults only" area. I can't bring myself to join in on the "reserving a chair with a towel and a flip-flop" thing at 7:00am in the morning, so yes, I would pay. It's shameful, I admit. And I agree, we shouldn't have to, and most likely we won't...but I CAN NEVER find a chair, you guys!! Like, NEVER!! It's so stressful walking around the lido with a 9-year-old, scouting out the area. I feel like a stalker every time. And to be even more brutally honest: I would pay extra for a good seat during the hairy chest contest!! :')
First and Ten Posted March 29, 2017 #35 Share Posted March 29, 2017 I would....not really needed by the main pool area but the Serenity Decks become a bit crowded so i would pay to reserve a seat there if it was offered. I have seen people sleep in the clamshell loungers from the previous night. That either tell me they had a really rough night or they were reserving them for the next day

Foxinspace Posted March 29, 2017 #37 Share Posted March 29, 2017 I would pay for shade. I love the heat, the sea breeze, being near the pool, but I absolutely can't stand the sun! I would pay for a reserved cabana style area 100%. I want all the perks of setting up by the pool without any of the direct sunlight! Crazy right? First and Ten Posted March 29, 2017 #39 Share Posted March 29, 2017 Were they sleeping alone? Clamshells become Clammotels at nights. I happened to wake up really early one morning, so i went out on deck, had to be right at sunrise....believe it or not, there were a few people on the Lido to see the sunrise, drinking coffee....walking around i passed by the serenity deck and there had to be about 3 clam shells with single people in it, bundled up with tote bags beside them....I have heard this done where people, to get a prime chair/spot/lounger will sleep in these clamshells from the night before....i give them props, that is dedication....Crazy, but dedicated

The4Cruisers Posted March 29, 2017 #41 Share Posted March 29, 2017 NO! And I don't want them selling the seats to the folks who spend money with no regard. There are things that should be open to all and not bought by the privileged.

Neotericisis Posted March 29, 2017 #43 Share Posted March 29, 2017 (edited) Exactly! A lot of posters on this thread are talking about getting away from the pool area and the craziness. That would never happen on a normal sea day unless you "save seats" with towels, clips, etc. or have someone from your party out there saving seats for you. So I know this isn't the popular answer but yes I would pay for this convenience! I'm with you. I have kids (DS 8, DD 9) who are cruising for the first time with us so I NEED to be by the pool to watch them. Plus, we cruise Carnival because its the fun ship. I love all the silly games, hairy chest contest, bingo on the Lido etc. I also love the music. Late in the day I do tend to move to the serenity deck, but before then I want to party. I shouldn't even put this lest Carnival get any wise ideas, but I would pay $10/day or even 1/2 day for pool side loungers. Now Carnival- if you are listening- if you DARE try to charge for loungers you will see how fast I recoup my money with rum runners and no bingo tickets LOL! What I end up doing is waking up early, getting a lounger, and reading a book with my coffee on the lounger (now there may or may not be a few pastries, but I'll never tell!). I love the quiet time. My husband (and now the kiddies) will meet me on deck for buffet breakfast, then I'm back to my chair (I swear he is allergic to the sun! He will be in the casino or gym). I actually have a dry erase board that I bring which details that I'm just grabbing a bite to eat and will be right back with the time I left included. I think that is courteous to the other passengers who want my seat. 20 min. later my behind is in the chair jamming to whatever music is playing until lunch time, when I DO give up my seat. After lunch I head to the serenity deck with a frosty treat from Twirls. I go to the room to shower (I am gross after being baked alive!) then we go to sports trivia (usually at 5 p.m.) and do nighttime activities such as dinner, etc. This time around I think the dry erase board will be very beneficial with me having to run to the kids club etc., but I will try to get DH to do most of the signing in/out since I am a sun goddess and naturally need as much time as possible. Plus- what if I miss some action on the Lido!?! Edited March 29, 2017 by Neotericisis
Butterbean1000 Posted March 29, 2017 #44 Share Posted March 29, 2017 No, as stated previously, Carnival just needs to enforce their existing rules for chair hogging.
coevan Posted March 29, 2017 #45 Share Posted March 29, 2017 Sad but very true. Never understood why people would give Carnival ideas to things that have always been included. Bad enough we get ripped off for lounge chairs on caribbean beaches but no way do we pay for this on the ship. ripped off? it's your choice, how can that be a rip off, just say no, bring a towel
h_blond2 Posted March 30, 2017 #46 Share Posted March 30, 2017 Absolutely not. I have no desire sit on the Lido deck. I usually don't have a problem finding a chair because I don't want to be right by the pool.
First and Ten Posted March 30, 2017 #47 Share Posted March 30, 2017 I don't see an issue implementing this....many people have a mindset of there being "prime spots" (i.e.: right by the pool, in the shade, under an umbrella, etc)....let people choose where they want to sit and pay a premium. Maybe that will account for 10-20% of the lounge chairs. The other 80-90% of the chairs are first come, first serve with no fee....it's a win/win Sent from my iPad using Forums mobile app

First and Ten Posted April 3, 2017 #50 Share Posted April 3, 2017 People pay to gamble, people pay to drink alcohol, people pay a premium for a specialty option when the MDR and Lido deck are available at no extra charge. People pay a premium to be able to get on ship first and drop their luggage off. Why not pay for a "prime seat" around the pool or the Serenity area, I have been on cruise lines that you reserve your seat for the evening shows....not saying make all the lounge chairs associated with a charge, but if you offer a reservation pay for system, i think it would alleviate alot of the "chair hog" mentality. A quick thought is the blue loungers are first come first serve. The "white" chairs are the reserved ones. So if you didnt reserve a chair, dont think about sitting in a white chair....If you want a guaranteed spot, reserve a chair. So no more running up on deck, plopping your stuff down and going off to breakfast....different prices for a daily/length of cruise rental
