Rare poinsettiaplate Posted April 24, 2017 #1 Share Posted April 24, 2017 Question for anyone who has been on the Prinsendam recently: What shape is she in? The website says 'recently refurbished.' What does that mean exactly?
Quartzsite Cruiser Posted April 24, 2017 #2 Share Posted April 24, 2017 Question for anyone who has been on the Prinsendam recently: What shape is she in? The website says 'recently refurbished.' What does that mean exactly? We were on the Prisendam for three months last year, and she was in the best shape we'd seen her. She went through an extensive drydock last May. The a/c units were replaced, the Lido redone, a lot of redecorating of the public areas to name a few things. Hope this answers your question. 0bnxshs Posted April 24, 2017 #4 Share Posted April 24, 2017 Was on her Nov/Dec 2016. She was in very good condition overall. We and several others had problems with insufficient AC in cabins that we were eventually provided OBC due to (this was the Caribbean and Amazon) and we had, over 29 days, water problems (the shower pan leaked into the floor and closet) in our bathroom/closet that required us to move and then water problems (toilet overflow) next door to our new cabin 2 door down the hall that required a move by the occupants of that cabin. DeepWaterMariner Posted April 24, 2017 #5 Share Posted April 24, 2017 I was on the Prinsendam for 67 days on the Grand South America this year and she was in excellent shape. The A/C problems that were reported during the holiday cruise had been straightened out. Plumbing issues are present on ships a lot newer than the Prinsendam, so it isn't a surprise that ship sometimes happen. I'll be back on her for 56 days this spring and summer. Heartgrove Posted April 24, 2017 #6 Share Posted April 24, 2017 Haven't there been comments regarding flooding, from the swimming pool, of the retrofitted aft cabins?
DeepWaterMariner Posted April 25, 2017 #7 Share Posted April 25, 2017 Haven't there been comments regarding flooding, from the swimming pool, of the retrofitted aft cabins? New balcony doors were installed on all the retrofitted aft cabins during the Grand South America to correct past flooding issues. We were in one of those balcony cabins and our balcony door was replaced while we were on an overland trip to Machu Picchu.

KirkNC Posted May 27, 2017 #9 Share Posted May 27, 2017 We were on here last May right after dry dock. They reported they spent $15mm. They redid Lido, new furniture in many venues, AC upgrades/repairs and new water desalination equipment to name a few. They also completely striped her hull and repainted her, the hull looked really good. But one must remember she is a thirty year old ship so you won't have to look hard to find signs of age, things like balcony sliding doors seem to be a problem. HAL has committed to having her hull re- certified, not a cheap process but required every thirty years. We still enjoy her and will be on her for four months starting in July.
