BookDragon Posted February 26, 2018 #51 Share Posted February 26, 2018 realistically, Carnival would not throw a guest off the ship for smoking. And realistically, smokers who follow the rules should be upset with the ones who don’t, rather than waste time ridiculing and dismissing others’ concerns. cpshaye Posted February 26, 2018 #52 Share Posted February 26, 2018 Studies show that smokers tend to drink and gamble more than non smokers....why would a cruise line essentially cut out 16% of the population when they don’t have to? I would gamble if it weren't so smoky. If they had a better ventilation system I might spend more time there. I do drink plenty on the ship without smoking. And nobody has suggested to ban smoking on all cruises.

Let me ask this, on the vast majority of ships, maybe even all of them, where is the only indoor area that you can smoke? The casino. Why do you think that is? Coincidence? Lonely At The Top Posted February 26, 2018 #55 Share Posted February 26, 2018 Along with smoking restrictions, I wish something could be done by the clueless people who bathe themselves in perfume/cologne. I am simply saying that if they would have a smoke-free cruise that would NOT mean they wouldn't make money in the casino. At this point I would settle for 1) smokers to only do so in designated areas and 2) Carnival to get better filtration systems for the casino (having a "smoke free" area in there is a joke.) I would disagree. If they would make a profit, then there would be more “No Smoking” cruises. I agree that the cruise lines are all about making money, so it should tell you something why they are not accommodating the 85-90% of the population who don’t smoke. Hopefully, this won’t even be an issue but, judging by the responses in this thread, my optimism is waning.

You misunderstood my original comment. I didn’t say they shouldn’t be reported. I simply stated I don’t let other people’s action ruin the enjoyment of my vacation. I’ll never understand why u all get so upset about what others do. It is my vacation and I would never give strangers the ability to ruin it. Well maybe if some one punched me in the face it might have an impact but u get my point. You clearly are on here and have enough information to know what to expect. But yes I’m sure you r still shocked and appalled when you smell smoke on your balcony. Some peopler just that way. beerman2 Posted February 26, 2018 #62 Share Posted February 26, 2018 I believe, like hotels, the $250 is a cleaning fee for the cabin or hotel room, not a fine. Smoking on the balcony will only get you a slap on the wrist. In light of what transpired recently with the "brawl", I certainly wouldn't want to "test" Carnival right now. Their tolerance for any infraction might be dealt with differently than one might expect.

Poobah Out2C Posted February 26, 2018 #65 Share Posted February 26, 2018 (edited) On my one cruise, they allowed smoking in a small lounge with carpet and no ashtrays. Poobah Out2C Posted February 26, 2018 #66 Share Posted February 26, 2018 realistically, Carnival would not throw a guest off the ship for smoking. 10 years ago Carnival wouldn't enforce the non smoking policy in the food area. That was my only bad cruise.

Poobah Out2C Posted February 26, 2018 #68 Share Posted February 26, 2018 I have had balconies where I have smelled some smoke a few times during a cruise, and I have had balconies where I have smelled none at all. Honestly, there is no way to predict what you may smell, but I've found that asking the smoking party (if they are adjacent to my cabin) if they are aware that they can be fined for smoking on a balcony usually puts an end to it. You must encounter courteous smokers.

If only 10% smoke they should be able to fill a ship with non smokers, guess not I said it was the Pride earlier, I meant Paradise. It's said that even the workers who build it were no allowed to smoke near it. The fact that Carnival could not fill even one ship with non smokers says a lot. Flatbush Flyer Posted February 26, 2018 #71 Share Posted February 26, 2018 I sit on the same balcony as a smoker and never smell it. We are outdoors. You may smell the smokestack though. That puts out more pollutants in a second than all the smokers put out in a week. Nice attempt at rationalization. shell55 Posted February 26, 2018 #74 Share Posted February 26, 2018 (edited) As for not letting it ruin my vacation, I have an allergy condition in which cigarette smoke causes my throat to become very irritated and sore. Also, smoking on the balcony is a fire hazzard. And even if these were not an issue the smell is yuk. Edited February 26, 2018 by shell55
sweenbean21 Posted February 26, 2018 #75 Share Posted February 26, 2018 Typically no, but on our last cruise there was someone nearby us always smoking marijuana when we were on our balcony. I personally hate the smell so it was pretty annoying!
