I think we all know that NCL has been juggling around the same perks for quite a while now with free drinks, specialty dining, internet, shore excursions etc. I personally LOVE when they do the free gratuities and tax free spree, so why not combine those two!! that is real money there! I don't really drink enough to get the drink perk, but the grats and the taxes are money I don't have to spend :) maybe NCL will read this and add it!!

We chose the "Canadian $ at par" perk which amounted to approx a 37% savings in real $. Figured that it was the best deal for us as neither of us drink much and the other perks really did not appeal to us. Don't know if this is available on every cruise or for non-Canadians, but it does show on the NCL website for us and we then went to out TA to book.

Whatever perks are offered are a business decision. Frankly, the "Free at Sea" perks seem to be the best as far as the mass-market cruise lines are concerned: Carnival and Royal Caribbean aren't offering free drinks!

I agree... we don't sail without a beverage package and the savings with this perk are significant. I'm perfectly happy with UBP, though I'd probably choose free grats over a dining package if given a choice.

i agree there is real value in the beverage perk if you use it enough. My husband and I are more likely to have just one drink, with dinner most likely, and so I find for us the dining package is really a great perk. Everyone has their favorites. I just think that the taxes/port fees and grats are always where we notice the jump in price, at least for us. I'd love the combo!

I would love if there was a Perk Option on the UBP, where someone who does not drink alcohol could chose instead to take the soda package.

Before you start, I realize you can use the UBP and just drink soda, but the 18% cost is twice the cost of the soda package.

A few years ago they did a 10% cash back in OBC which was really nice! My PVP said it was a huge hit- so much so that he didn't think they would offer it again. They did offer it one more time but I've not seen it since they started the Free at Sea packages.

That is not a totally true statement if you look back to when they did it many including myself realized a good savings on the tax free spree. Others the price did jump but it probably didn't go back after the offer was over. They adjust their prices all the time, it may have nothing to do with the offer.

That wasn't the case for me, either. I booked a cabin last Monday and didn't get charged the fees. My MIL booked the same cruise over the weekend. Her fare for the same cabin class was higher AND included the port charges, taxes and fees. In total, she's paying about $350 more than I am for the same trip with the same perk choices.

I gladly GAVE UP the DSC perks because I gained:

$300 OBC (Dash sale)

$150 shore excursions (Free at sea)

250 internet minutes (Free at sea)

UBP (Free at sea)

SDP (Free at sea)

$50 casino credit (Value selects)

Unlimited phone calls (Value selects)

100 internet minutes (Value selects)

10 photos (Value selects)

$100 OBC (Latitude sale)

Triple points (Latitude Sale in a suite 9 months out)

Plus

All Platinum plus perks for 2 people.

So while the DSC may be a valuable perk for some people, it is also worth it to others to give it up. The Dash sale/Latitude OBC was double the DSC charges plus I also received everything else so that was a no brainer for me. My cruise date also became a port/government fee free date but even that was not worth it to me to give up what I already have.

i wish they would do free gratuities more often. i hope they never do away with the UBP! what would be nice is the UBP or dining package that's truly free - not free after paying the 18%. it was that way for awhile...

Not in my case. Original booked price was $2301. Rebooked tax free sale at $2030.
