Why would RCCl show a negative outstanding balance?

Recommended Posts

I was hoping I could make money buy booking more online!

That would be awesome, although I suspect even the Royal Caribbean IT department would figure that one out. I decided to ask on Twitter (@dinedrinktravel) to see if somebody there can give me a better answer. That is occasionally a more productive route to getting answers from travel providers.

I have 2 cabins on Liberty in August. I had to call yesterday one cabin was $200 and change less than whats actually owed the other had a negative $200 balance! They said they've had several people call with the same issue. I told them I'll take it! But they fixed it and sent me a confirmation! Also I had no modifications to my cruise.

After contact with Royal on Twitter, I got this response.51a2d1019a341337c49d1e131cf1e777.jpg

I have also contacted RCCL via twitter to confirm things and have sent screenshots of before and after this negative balance showed. Plus I just realised that the negative balance is not exactly (but close) to the total amount of my purchased dining and excursions. The planner is also missing my payment history breakdown. I'm sure all is fine as everything is still showing up and I have printed out the calender and the setsail passes for next week :) just need some piece of mind

I'm more concerned with lower positive balances than the true total outstanding balance (such as myself!)

If I paid off the outstanding balance on the website, I know that's lower than the true outstanding balance (based on the invoice)

Although the website would show £0.00, their own screens (I presume) would still show the correct outstanding balance. Therefore, they'd think i'd underpaid and my reservations would be cancelled...

Pay from the invoice, or better call RCI and pay over the phone with a rep who knows what you owe, at least until IT works this all out. You can also call8665627625 and use the automated system to get a confirmation emailed which should show the correct balance. Mine was correct and I just did it.

Same issue for our cruise on 7/6. It switched over exactly 30 days prior. I have a feeling it is IT issues related to making onboard accounts active, thereby transferring shore excursions, dining, drinks etc to the account, and making the computer see the money you paid for them as "extra", since the items have been moved.

Just a theory from the combination of my travel agent background and my husband's IT background.

Great theory but not correct in my case. My cruise isn't until Nov. and my balance due is the exact amount minus my drink packages and specialty restaurant reservations.

I keep checking my reservation for Grandeur July 13. It had been a zero balance but now shows -$191.50 which is the price of the excursion I purchased by credit card. My cruise planner still shows the excursion so I guess I'll just wait.

Well, in that case, I guess they are switching their system around, or just "royally" messing up. ;p

Way to early for that. I don't sail for 45 days. That wouldn't happen until at least the three day window when you can no longer purchase excursions, etc.

Howdy, folks. I have a cruise on the Liberty departing on 25 June. I booked the cruise over a year ago through the casino. We are sailing in a Grand Suite, and we pre-paid gratuities, have an internet package, and have drink packages for the four of us. I completed check in a while back, and I logged in last week to print out boarding passes and such. At that point it showed my status was "Purchased," my Package Total was $8039.83, and my balance owed was zero. Sweet.

I logged in earlier this morning, and my status is still showing Purchased. However, it now shows that my package total is $6708.36 and that my balance is -$1331.47. I have not cancelled anything. My cabin has not changed. I acknowledge that the correct answer here is to call in and ask what happened, and I am on hold as I write this. However, sometimes crowdsourcing an answer is more accurate than is waiting for the answer for a single representative. Any idea what may have happened here?

I posted a similar thread on the same thing last night. We're all ok. But, when I saw the minus before the dollar sign I went WOOHOO! MAJOR PRICE DROP!!!!

So I guess I am behind the times.. My sister & I both cruising in 3 wks noticed our credit also. No news yet from Rcc? I guess they just don't see it on their end? It don't understand why this company doesn't spend more $$ on IT issues? Its embarrassing bringing family on to sail when this happens all the time..

Yes, from other posts of people who have called or texted, everything looks fine on their end. And frankly I don't understand why this has not been fixed yet. But you can get a confirmation from them to make sure you cruise is paid off and check cruise planner to see everything is still there so nothing to worry about.

This thread has made me dizzy (or more dizzy than normal). So my question is: my final payment date is tomorrow for an August cruise. My cruise planner shows a balance due about $500 less than I really owe. Do I pay what RCCL is asking for or the amount I know I still owe on the cruise?

Thanks.

You need to pay what you actually owe on the cruise. What we see on the website is not accurate. Call the 866 number at the top of the RCI page and use the automated system to send you a confirmation if you need to or just call and get a person on the phone.

Having been unsuccessful on the phone, I have now exchanged Twitter messages with Royal Caribbean. That resulted in the same news-- everything looks fine on their end. However, because I was able to show them a screen shot of my account they now believe that it really is displaying incorrectly. They promised to have IT look into it. I have my doubts, but it feels like progress. So long as I can find a mojito once I board in 15 days, I should be good. :)

I called and paid my balance. I didn't want to do it online. The rep didn't seem to think anything was wrong. Just said you have $100 Balance, I paid it and he sent me an updated invoice with $0 balance.
