notjaded Posted June 25, 2017 #1 Share Posted June 25, 2017 On our first Seabourn cruise, we stumbled into the Trivia session midway through the cruise. All the teams were fixed and we seemed to be out of luck. We are nearing our next Seabourn cruise, and wonder how teams form among those who are not traveling with others? What are the unwritten rules that team members follow to ensure a satisfying time for all? Many thanks!

jozi Posted June 26, 2017 #3 Share Posted June 26, 2017 Get there for the first session and you will find a group. The CD will put people together. And try to gather an international group. It's fun and improves the odds of someone knowing the answer. We may all speak some form of English in US, Australia, UK but.....
Hanoverian Posted June 26, 2017 #4 Share Posted June 26, 2017 It is great fun, please do give it a try. And lovely gifts for the winners. I still use the sturdy Seabourn umbrella that each member on my team won a few years back.

jozi Posted June 26, 2017 #6 Share Posted June 26, 2017 Participation in the trivia contest is a perfect way to meet others and to ensure a more enjoyable cruise. Seabourn does a great job in making it a convivial experience. On the Japan Alaska trip the room was full and (13?) teams maxed out (10, maybe?). But may be unique to a trip with lots of seadays and old timers. Other seabourn trips I've been on we've easily added teammates along the way, so don't be discouraged! Able Seaman H Posted June 29, 2017 #7 Share Posted June 29, 2017 As has been said already it is essential to arrive in good time for the first Trivia session, usually held 12.00 noon on the first sea day. The Cruise Director and Assistant Cruise Director will help teams sort themselves out. In the past when teams have arrived mid way through the cruise they have been awarded the same number of points as the lowest scoring team to get them started. Trivia is always a source of much fun. Some frustration and at times lively debate but never forget, at the end of the day,.... "ITS ONLY A GAME" 😁 Henry :)

Roxburgh Posted June 29, 2017 #10 Share Posted June 29, 2017 How many Seabourn umbrellas does one need? We have nine Seabourn teddy bears, nicely lined up in a row, as a result of multiple trivia triumphs.
Emperor Norton Posted June 29, 2017 #11 Share Posted June 29, 2017 How many Seabourn umbrellas does one need? You can always donate them. They're still far better than Crystals "prizes" that require you to spend money to use them.

Not sure what you are referring to-- discount coupons maybe? We won casino certificates on Crystal at trivia. I think $25 each. So no out of pocket. But i'm very happy with my seabourn umbrellas. And if you need a seabourn key ring or two or three....
stamfordian Posted June 30, 2017 #13 Share Posted June 30, 2017 How many Seabourn umbrellas does one need? Clearly not a true trivia fan, wripro. The prizes are incidental. It's the winning, the utter trouncing of the other 10 or 12 teams, the sheer feeling of superiority as you walk in to dinner as a triumphant team on the final night. It's not about fun - it's all-out psychological warfare!

notjaded Posted July 1, 2017 Author #16 Share Posted July 1, 2017 OP here. Thanks for all the feedback, fellow Seabornites. (Or is that Seabournians?) Stamfordian: LOL. I'd love to be on your team. When is your next adventure?

notjaded Posted July 3, 2017 Author #18 Share Posted July 3, 2017 A quick followup regarding Trivia scheduling: Able Seaman H mentioned that the first meeting would be around Noon on the first sea day. What kind of schedule would one expect on a very port-intensive cruise? We only have two sea days on our upcoming 16-day journey.

cruisr Posted July 4, 2017 #22 Share Posted July 4, 2017 Thanks. Is the entire schedule for Trivia given at the first meeting? Published the night before in the Daily? In my experience going back almost 20 years sailing Seabourn the Trivia is always at Noon on the sea days. Simple. Sea day, trivia at Noon. It will be in the Herald in any case for those that can't remember it's at Noon. Whilst you meet at Noon it will not start until after the Captain's Noon announcement. In all my cruises I have never experienced it in the late afternoon on a port day. In fact, a large group of trivia devotees begged for a Trivia at 4:00pm when we were leaving port at 3:00 and were told no. I guess it is at the discretion of the CD. Enjoy it, but it is a blood sport on Seabourn and all for a bookmark ;)
Chairsin Posted July 4, 2017 #23 Share Posted July 4, 2017 I have been on at least two cruisers where Trivia was held on one occasion last in the afternoon of a port day after we were underway to the next port --- but that is rare. Sent from my iPad using Forums Same for me. Sometimes the CD decides to sneak an extra trivia day in, mostly when they feel the demand is there. On my last cruise, we had an extra one in the afternoon, which did not count towards the cumulative totals of the regular noon series, as not everyone could attend.
