Once in a suite, always in a suite......NOT! What was your experience?

Don't think it is a shame at all. If you are going to spend the extra cash on a suite then you deserve the "extra" service. Kind of like booking a first class airfare ticket. You deserve the bigger seats, less people per bathroom, and more attention from the attendant not having to share them with 100 other people. If you don't think it is worth it then clearly don't spend the extra cash on a suite. If I am going ot spend the cash on a suite, I want and expect the extra service.

:(

What a shame.

When you book a higher class plane ticket you get that extra service when in the aircraft lounge, onboard the plane (in the first/business class cabin) and at places like check in. You don't usually get it in general areas around the airport terminal, for example if you eat at a public area restaurant or bar.

Which, I have to say, was exactly my experience when I was in a suite on NCL. We got the specific service from the Haven staff, priority check in, in our suite etc, but when we were around the ship generally, I didn't see any improvement in the service that we got from the bar or other staff. I would also say that when I am sailing usually, in a balcony room, I don't see people with the key cards that indicate a suite getting any better service than we do at the bars or other places.

I'm sure they get better seating in restaurants, as an example, although I did notice that we also had pretty good tables on our last cruise (as Platinum Plus).

Why is this a shame?

The poster said ALL service was good but suite service a notch above. Don't you think at roughly double the price the staff dedicated to suite pax in the suite area is acceptable?

Certainly not a shame.

This is what I meant in terms of people getting the same kind of service outside of the general area. I can understand getting special treatment when in the Haven and etc. But I don't like being treated like a 2nd class citizen while walking around the ship in the general area when you are a platinum plus. That is just not right, esp if you cruised with them to get to that level.

Last time I was in a suite was about 5-6 years ago on the Star. The room was spacious. Bigger than many hotel rooms on land, which is saying something for a ship that size. However, I just didn't get the appeal of the suite perks. There's nothing the butter does that's above and beyond. Need to make dining reservations? Call the butler, but if you're not in a suite, you call the reservation desk. Who cares? Random food you didn't ask for or want? I can do without it. A coffee maker? There's gallons of coffee about 100 feet away. Do I REALLY need to make my own? Back then, the ship didn't have an on-demand video system, so the butler would let you borrow DVDs. The selection was pretty poor. This is what you're paying for? Breakfast in Cagney's entitled you to exclusive menu items like a hockey puck sized steak. Really? Take the money you would have spent on a suite and spend it elsewhere on your vacation.

The newer ships are designed to nudge you into suites thanks to the exclusive areas like the Haven. I still don't find it worth the money and I honestly think most people who feel pampered by the perks have deluded themselves into thinking they're spending their money wisely.

My only two cruises so far with NCL, were in Owner's Suites on Dawn, thanks to the Upsell Dept! (may she rest in peace. :loudcry: )

I have a cruise booked in Dec and am currently in a mid-ship Balcony, so I'm hoping for a chance for the upgrade bidding, but we'll see.

I will admit.... If we don't upgrade, it will really be hard going back to just a balcony room. No butler, no LARGE bed and big bathrooms, free liquor, water, and soft drinks, etc... Just typing that, I got teary eyed. :o

The owners suite is marvelous! Best room I ever had in over 20yrs of sailing. I didn't even use the haven with the 2 balconies. Bose speakers, soda, water , booze, coffee machine and space space space! OMG best cruise ever. We are now booked in a large aft balcony and I bid on 3 categories (but not *sobs* the OS).

I've' had inside and OV on Carnival and Haven on NCL. I booked Haven again for upcoming Baltic trip because it was a wonderful experience for me. If I could afford to travel on one of the small high-end ships I would do that in a heartbeat. I don't like to be around crowds and I absolutely cannot stand children running wild with no adult supervision. I'm fortunate to be able to go at times when most children are in school. But the Haven is a special treat for me. Since we are traveling to the Baltic, I wanted the trip to be extra special for my husband. I enjoy having the perks of the snacks, the movies, being able to board and disembark with priority. And in cases where I can afford it, I will do it. However, if the choice is no cruise or a cruise in a Balcony, OV or even inside, then I will take what I can afford, because any day at sea is better than a day at work.

Priority boarding often takes longer to get on the ship due to needing to wait for an escort but you do get escorted...

Priority tender can be had by booking a NCL excursion...

Priority disembarkment goes after self carry...

Assuming your butler doesn't try and talk you out of it, specialty dining in suite including breakfast, lunch and dinner is the best perk (if that's still accurate)...

For us it's worth the money.

I know for sure that I spend my money wisely if I spend them on something I want.

What else shall I spend my money on? A new car? Have that. A bigger car? Don't need that. Better food? Already eat what I want. A bigger house? Only need one bed to sleep in and one sofa to sit in. What else can I need?

Priority boarding means no lines so it's definitely faster.

Priority disembarkment goes before self carry if that's wanted. Personally I prefer to be the last off the ship and that's also a nice perk.

To the OP. Since I haven't gone back from suites I can't say how that experience was.

I do think that it's easier to go back on a smaller ship with less "special things".

If someone gave me a cruise in a balconycabin on for example the Jewel I should be happy to go even if I for some reason could not upgrade to a suite.

If someone wanted to give me a cruise on the Epic I might refrain to go because I should probably think about the Haven I wish I was there.

If a suite guest and his non-suite twin brother arrive at the port together at 11am, which brother will be on the ship first (with a VIBE pass) while the other is still in the terminal? :D

Don't know which gets on first.

But sure can say which one I would rather be with.

The suite perks I've mentioned are worthless. If you want food brought to your room, order it. It may cost money, but I'll bet it costs a lot less than a suite. If you want coffee, don't settle for the stuff that pops out of a pod coffee maker in your suite. Get the good stuff. Yes, it's expensive, but with the money you save, you can afford it. Go pay for upgraded meals and entertainment. Go on an expensive excursion. Why waste your money on a suite that yields perks that are pointless?

I understand this is a little different on the newer ships. With the Haven, you have access to a separate pool, which is great because the common area pool is way too small. Carnival has a better way to do exclusive areas on their newest ships. They have an adults only section in the back called the "Havana Cabana" area. It's like Vibe plus Haven and it's all included in the room price. The eligible rooms aren't all suites, either. Most are balconies but there are also insides and suites, too. It takes up a lot less space on the ship so the common areas don't suffer as much.

Isn't the money more wasted if I do nothing with It?

Not spending money = wasting money? I'm not sure you have grasped how money works.

It seems like you don't really understand how money works.

Money are not worth anything if they are not used.

I'm interested in many kinds of investments and I really understand how money works.

What is the meaning of having money and not spend it?

Of course I can save and save money but what's the point with that? Is the winner really the one who is richest when he/she dies?

My money aren't really burdening me, I spend some of them on cruises and the rest can be good to have when I retire.

Thanks anyway for giving me an suggestion what to do with my money.

I have friends who own lots of properties for investment but live in the tiniest of house so that they can save for their retirement. I say to them how do you even know you will last until your retirement? I say enjoy life when you are still able to!!

You can actually do both. I own several rental properties and live in a 3000 sf house. We went on vacation a minimum of 5 weeks per year, mostly to the Caribbean. However, we also did save and become debt free for retirement. Retirement is now only 6 months away and I can afford to go on 2 cruises (Dawn OS and Breakaway Aft PH) and fly first class to both destinations. You don't need to sacrifice everything to retire comfortably.
