Punchline Comedy Adult Shows -What Age?

card them? Who carries around ID on a ship? Do they actually check their age on their S&S card? While on the ship, I carry only my S&S and some singles for tipping

The S&S card does contain age information. I watched them do it and we actually spent quite a bit of time with the Comedy Club Manager on that trip. They were having huge issues with under-age teens attending the shows. It makes the comedians and other patrons uncomfortable, given the nature of the comedy at those shows.

We were on the Vista this past May and attended one adult only show that was bordering on "indecent".

I've seen a lot in my job with the US DOJ but I was even glad that my 31 year old daughter was not present.

There's fun and then there's going over the top. On this night the comedian did just that. Please find something else

for your daughter to do......

I don't plan on her attending. You guys convinced me it could get worse than anything I've experienced when I went. I was only even considering it if her 19 year old friend insisted on going as I know then she would want to go too. She doesn't like being alone in crowds. If her friend does insist on going one of us will stay with my daughter and find something else for her to do.

Carnival let's just about everyone in except for really young.

We don't go anymore to them because I am tired of hearing the language and graphic language that is used. I think these people try to incorporate every dirty word in their show. Also they are very demeaning to women most of the time and I don't find that anywhere near humorous.

A few years ago they were not enforcing it as my son reported that he was able to go to the late show (he was a few months shy of 18); we had no idea he went because we were in bed. Our next cruise he was 18 and they carded him - but of course he wasn't walking around this ship with his driver's license or college ID - nor could he have gotten it because his wallet was in our safe in our room. I think the guy finally let him in.

Moral - be prepared to establish your age!

I never paid attention before and don't see it on Carnival's website. Are the adult only shows 18+ or 21+ and how strict are they with this or is it just a suggestion? I'll be traveling with 4 kids ages 15, 19, 20, and 21. Since all but one of them is under 21 I was curious if they would be able to go with us. We enjoyed the adult shows more than the PG versions the last 2 cruises we were on and would like to attend with at least the over 18's, though I don't think it's anything my 15 year old hasn't been exposed to before just watching TV.

18 and there are strict.

I have been in shows where they asked if anyone was under 18, then proceeded to pick on those they thought were under 18 until they left. I'm talking total humiliation of some poor teenagers. They explained it by saying they didn't want kids under 18 taking up seats that adults could have had.

I just got off the breeze a week ago and not only did they ask your age but my 21 and 22 year old had to go back to their rooms and get the. Drivers licenses. They said that they couldn't check their sign and sale card for age at the door. They did let us hold them a seat.

Maybe they USED to not care about age...but our last 4 cruises (2016 and 2017) they sent someone around to each table with lights up to check visually for kids. And they did ask them for ID. Several ended up leaving each time.

Its announced and in Fun Times that the show is 18+....what would possess a teenager (and his/her parents) to walk into a venue and sit down if you don't meet the minimum age requirements....If the show is 18+ and you are 16, you don't belong there

I have had to go back to my cabin and get my ID on a Carnival cruise more than once. I now just carry my ID with me on the ship. Despite being in my 30s, I am still mistaken for a teenager.

The same things that causes underage kids to try to go to clubs, drink alcohol etc. Maybe the parents are OK with it, or perhaps the kids are rebellious. I don't think you could attribute this to a single answer.

My kid has been on a dozen cruises an I would lay money that he has never bothered to read the fun times. He's 19 now and enjoys the comedy and always has. On the other hand he avoids the casino, clubs and alcohol like the plague and always has. When he reported he saw a late show at 17 years and 10 month I advised him of the rules, (though I personally was not concerned about the content with him heading off to college in less than 6 months) and he said ok. No problem. Had I been allowed to take him such as with an R rated movie, I would have.

It is more about the comedian and what you and the young adults are comfortable with. On one of our cruises the comedian's late night show was really raunchy, and I curse like a sailor. He left the stage and walked around the room propositioning women, in excruciating detail. Now it was funny and people laughed including me, my wife, 20 year old son, and the majority of women in attendance. Unknown to us, because of where we were sitting, one of the young ladies he made the focus of his attention was a member of our dinner table. The next night at dinner her mother discussed at length how what he had said to her 17 year old daughter was completely disgusting. I felt bad for her, but honestly they said over and over, if you are under 18 or easily offended leave now. I would tell you to error on the side of caution, and think more about what you are comfortable with them hearing more than their age.

I've already decided she's not going. I guess it's just the luck of the draw but when we went it was no more raunchy then your average movie these days but the things you guys describe would have my daughter, even the nearly 21 year old, totally red faced. I really wasn't even thinking about taking her. I was mainly wondering if it were over 18 or 21 as I couldn't recall and I know some things on the ship are over 21 only, like the serenity deck.

Oh, my kids already here all this in school and with their friends.....really? If some 30 something guy, starts talking "dirty" to your 16 year old girl, making sexual remarks, and asking for sexual favors, you would be on the phone with the police and school district. But yet, if it happens in the comedy club, it's humor? There are reasons why it says "adult only" and if you let your kids in, than you better be ready for things that are not acceptable anyplace else. This is usually beyond schoolyard talk.

I always attend at least one of the adult comedy shows on board and most of the time they are really funny. I was at one where the 'comedian' decided to pick on me. He just started commenting on my body and my breasts and started describing me doing vulgar sex acts . That's not comedy. I got up to walk out and he started making fun of me about how I can't take a joke. I just replied that he was not funny, he was a disgusting pervert.

Comedy, similar to food, is very subjective....some people find vulgarity very humorous, others find it offensive. As a general rule in a comedy club, if you embarrass easily, NEVER sit in one of the first few rows by the stage, as you found out

I don't know any woman that would find a man describing her doing vulgar sex acts to a room full of strangers comedy.

Whoaaaaaaaaaaa....I am not defending the comedian, I made a general statement about comedy. Case in point, some comedians, when they "curse", it sounds awkward and not funny at all....Richard Pryor or Eddie Murphy doing standup and dropping "F" bombs, in the context they use it, was hysterical....There are some people who view the old "3 Stooges" episodes the funniest thing ever (slapstick). Ask some one else and they will tell you its the dumbest thing they have ever seen. I remember one comedy show a few years back, this woman in the audience started heckling the comedian. He absolutely destroyed her to the point that the audience was falling out of their chairs laughing so hard and her and her hubby walked out. He got a little off color, but I wouldn't call it downright vulgar. Again, what may be "off color" to me may be downright offensive to you....Different perceptions

I would say that enforcing or not enforcing age is subjective. In 2005, I took my daughter and her friend to several of the adult shows figuring they had heard it all and no one said a thing. There weren't very many under age people at the shows, but their were a few. I must say, I was embarrassed by the stuff that was said at one particular show, but the kids seemed to enjoy it and didn't get embarrassed. Perhaps it went over their heads. Regardless, I would not let them go alone (they are very late at night), and if it gets too rough, you can always leave. Having traveled other cultures and having an open mind, I felt it was worth the experience. These girls are now 25 and they seemed to have turned out quiet well! :)
