KimmieTN Posted July 7, 2017 #1 Share Posted July 7, 2017 We booked a cruise in January 2019 out of Mobile and ended up booking nine cabins for friends and friends of friends from all over the US. Three days ago, I got an email stating ship is going into dry dock and contact my PVP. He was out of the office until that night so I started looking myself and found the same itinerary out of NOLA a week later for about the same price and I even located nine cabins in a row. My PVP called that night and said he sent the info to his manager and was working on it. That is where everything has stalled. My issue is the upper deck on the Fantasy is between two decks with cabins. We booked when free upgrades were going on. If we get moved to Upper deck on Triumph, we are above the casino, dance club or show lounge. Is it unreasonable for us to be asked to be moved up one deck so we are between cabins again (comparable to what we originally booked) for the same price we booked for? Also, instead of the $25 per person on board credit we have, would it be wrong to try to get more since I've done a lot of the leg work search cruises, etc? Looking for opinions as I wait for my PVP to get back with me.

I certainly avoided the Empress deck on the Fantasy and stayed on the upper as well, but asking for more onboard credit, to me, it's asking for too much. Your cruise is more than a year and half away and I think $50 a cabin is fine in my book. You can try and ask, but I rather prioritize moving up a deck instead of asking for more OBC. Wish the best of luck to you and hope you can get up a deck.

bnorris10 Posted July 7, 2017 #4 Share Posted July 7, 2017 I am with the poster who said $50 OBC is more than fair - I would focus on trying to get moved up a level and if that does not work then I would perhaps ask for additional OBC for the inconvenience

springs741 Posted July 7, 2017 #6 Share Posted July 7, 2017 You asked for opinions. Mine isn't likely to be popular but....... You can not factor the time and effort you made to find a replacement. I appreciate the work you put into it as I am the family planner, but you choose to do that. The rest of your group shouldn't be rewarded for your effort. Also you PVP should have done all that for you. Again you made the choice to do it. Since your cruise is 18 months away you should not be out any money. Airlines don't book that far in advance and most hotel will refund your deposit if they even booked you. The next thing we have to look at is the category of stateroom. Based on the ships and locations you must have booked interior rooms (Fantasy has ocean view and Triumph has balcony on the outer hull). Your original booking would have been 4C or 4D. On the Triumph upper deck the interiors are rated at 4D and 4E. So you are looking at an equal or better category already. Add to all of the above the Fantasy is almost 10 years older. With all of this I really feel $50 OBC is fair compensation. I hope you and your extended family have a joyous cruise. Some of our most cherished cruise memories are from the family cruises. meatloafsfan Posted July 7, 2017 #7 Share Posted July 7, 2017 On the Fantasy - were you in Junior suites on the Upper deck or oceanviews? If you were in oceanviews and they are moving you to balcony cabins, I'd just take the 9 balconies on Upper deck. If they want to just match your category (ocean view to ocean view - then you may end up on deck 1 or 2). If you're booked in interiors, then I would request whatever deck you really want but be realistic and realize that they might just want to do a straight swap (upper deck to upper deck). If it's interior to interior - I'd check your cabin category (4C, 4B, 4D, etc) and match to that category and see what deck you can get.
Chipmoose Posted July 7, 2017 #8 Share Posted July 7, 2017 We are experiencing a similar issue with a booking in Feb 2019 that was cancelled due to the ship going into drydock (Carnival Pride in early February 2019). I don't know what to say about your cabin issue, but with regard to the onboard credit, in the notification email we received for our cancelled cruise, they let us know that if we rebook a similar cruise, they will be adding $50 per person onboard credit. We already had $75 pp onboard credit, and when I called they let us know we would not lose the existing onboard credit, and the $50 pp would go on top of that. Wish you the best of luck in rebooking a perfect cruise for your group!

KimmieTN Posted July 8, 2017 Author #12 Share Posted July 8, 2017 Thanks everyone. I guess I will just be patient. I'm still waiting on a call from my PVP - I just get texts that he's working on it. I'm a planner and don't like things hanging, but probably in my best interest to just hang on :)

Our 2/3/2019 Pride was cancelled due to the Pride going into drydock, but it looks like there are at least 2 Pride cruises in the second half of Feb 2019 that are still on. mom2boys97 Posted July 9, 2017 #17 Share Posted July 9, 2017 If You have that many cabins booked why are you not going thru group sales you can get so many more amenities for booking over a certain amount of rooms like a free berth ect.. Worth checking in to.. I had a group and we had 9 cabins and I got almost 500 in OBC which I shared with my group... Cant hurt to check...

Sent from my iPhone using Forums We booked over six months ago so I'm fuzzy on the details, but I believe we did not book a group rate because our PVP told us they would not honor the sale price, upgrades and half price deposit on the group site and it would cost more. Five of the couples are first time cruisers and we were trying to keep the cost down for them. Maybe I should check into it now.

Five of the couples are first time cruisers and we were trying to keep the cost down for them. Maybe I should check into it now. I know with groups you can not do the half price deposit, but I think the sale price/upgrades would have been available (It might have been slightly higher to accommodate for the amenities you would get). IMHO, it would have been well worth paying the little extra for the amenities and the fact that you would have gotten the value of a free berth (you need to have 15 paid guests to get a free berth). Your PVP should have gone over all of the options with you so you could decide which would have been the better option. THIS is why I don't use a PVP, most of them have their own agenda (like he/she didn't want to lose the sale to the group dept.)
