Thanksgiving Cruise

We are sailing on the Dream out of NOLA this Thanksgiving. It will be our first "holiday" cruise (unless you count Memorial Day). Does Carnival do a Thanksgiving dinner? Are they going to decorate? And are they going to transition to Christmas immediately for Black Friday?

We have been on 2 Thanksgiving cruises over the past 6 years. They will do tom turkey as an option in the MDR. I am not sure about the buffet. They did not decorate for thanksgiving. They also didn't decorate for Christmas while we were on the ship. I believe they roll out Christmas decorations over the next few weeks as the ships dock on a rolling basis.

Thanks for the info. We'll be on Glory over Thanksgiving. I am anticipating a lot of extra passengers because of families cruising, has that been your experience?

My experience was the ship sails at capacity with lots of families. When booking on Thanksgiving, if a room is slotted for 4 people, it will have 4 people.

We're also headed out this year Thanksgiving week on the Pride - This will be our 3rd (? I think...) Thanksgiving cruise. Like previously mentioned you'll have a good crowd and there will be more kids than the weeks before/after but that's expected. Christmas decor doesn't start until early December on all ships. In addition to the meal though they will have other Thanksgiving activities and if I remember correctly they do a "Black Friday" sale in the shops (not sure if it any more than a normal sale...)

Have fun!

Buffet carves whole turkeys, only place onboard to get dark meat. The buffet meal has been very good.

Since our parents are gone, we have taken several Thanksgiving cruises and the MDR and the Lido always serve an excellent traditional dinner. We noticed that they are putting up decorations as we leave the ship.

Have fun!

We have cruised the last three years on Thanksgiving-Magic, Freedom, and Liberty, and as others have indicated, you will have a capacity crowd (last year on Liberty was not, due to the mechanical problems and revised itineraries). I would cruise every thxgiving if possible, but this year have to give it a miss since we are doing the Freedom 14 day Journey cruise earlier in the month.

I don't remember seeing any Christmas decorations on these cruise, and as far as the turkey dinner in the MDR - well let's just say it's one of very few MDR meals I have ever not been able to eat :o! I think the buffet turkey was better.

We go to the buffet too for turkey dinner on Thanksgiving cruises. We've done 6 Thanksgiving cruises and haven't liked the MDR Thanksgiving turkey dinner. The buffet carves fresh turkey and they have all the fixings - that's our go to Thanksgiving meal now which we've found to be much better than the MDR.

Yes, the ships are crowded and sail at capacity over Thanksgiving. We were on the Glory last Thanksgiving and had an awesome cruise. It was the first holiday cruise we took that didn't seem overwhelmingly crowded everywhere.

We will be on the Glory this Thanksgiving as well. This will be our 12th Thanksgiving cruise and yes, the ship will be full - but all sailings are. The difference here will be the number of kids on-board. It's been our experience though, that the kids are generally (relatively) well behaved and aren't really a problem - so far anyway. Don't know about the Christmas decorations as the schedule has not been published yet - it's been about 50-50 on our sailings. Someone asked about the traditional Thanksgiving dinner - there is an attempt, and I tried for a number of years to follow tradition, but finally gave up.

I have to agree with SCOTSGAL, the MDR meal on Thanksgiving was probably one of the worst decision we made. 8 cruises on Tday and NCL and Carnival, Buffet was always great. Having fresh carved Turkey with choice of dark or white meat was the best. MDR seemed like slooowww never gonna get it so we ate there and then went to the buffet the first cruise. Haven't regretted it yet.

We, too, have enjoyed the carved bird in the buffet rather than the pressed turkey roll plated up in the MDR. As we all know there's a world of difference in taste and texture. Last year we ate our salads and mains at the buffet, hit the casino as a digestive aid and then we were seated in the MDR for several desserts and coffee only. We plan to do this again next year.
