Players Club Survey

Many moons ago, I used to work security at a riverboat casino (that no longer had to cruise the river thanks to new laws). There were 3 decks and I forget how many filters were on each deck, but a lot. They changed them once a week, at least. They went in clean as a whistle and came out black as tar. It was disgusting looking. I'm not sure there's a filtration system out there that can rid a large room, with a lot of smokers, of the smell. I hate cigarette smoke and the smell, but after a while each night working there, I'd go "nose blind" because it was so overwhelming it'd just kill the sense. Or maybe my brain would turn it off out of mercy. In addition to my clothes, my hair was like a sponge too. When I got home and in the shower, as soon as the water hit my hair, the smell would release like a cloud. It was terrible.

To those who think it'd hurt Carnival's bottom line, you'd be surprised. Illinois passed its smoking ban almost 10 years ago and, even though they fought like mad for an exemption, that casino to this day is (mostly) smoke-free. They are allowed to have a small room on each deck for smokers, but a vast majority of slots are smoke-free and all of the table games are smoke-free. It's still as full as ever. Gamblers aren't going to stop gambling. Our bars are still full, too.

We were on the Conquest last year and, as much as I hate smoke, I didn't find it to be too terrible. I don't really gamble, but we'd stand and watch another person in our group play for a bit. And I spent some time at one of the casino prize games that was positioned between the slots and the bar. And we walked through there often. It definitely smelled, but I've certainly been in worse smoky places. I never came out of there smelling smoky and I know from experience that it only takes minutes to wreak of smoke. Come to think of it, the two people in our group (also non-smokers) who played slots quite a bit never came out of there stinking either.

Second hand smoke is toxic. Smoking is also a "naked light" which has no place on a ship. It is time for adults to recognize the ship is full of children who are more sensitive to toxic materials, and ban any type of smoking. I have suggested it be stopped in the casino.

I also asked that drinks be on the house as I board, and be comped anywhere on the ship. Vegas and the California Indians take care of my food and beverage tabs, and don't make me play ten Bens before offering a libation. I also think they could be a bit faster with the drinks, and get some decent Cognac along with how to make a Singapore Sling.

I didn't receive one. :( Last 4 out of 5 cruises were Premier. Booked my past Jan HAL due to a great casino offer (hadn't sailed them in 4+ years). My upcoming cruise is "only" a 'free chips' sailing. Actually received my first-ever bounce back offer after last cruise (couldn't use it), and finally received a Pack-and-Play offer (couldn't use it).

But do I get a survey? Noooooo!

I know you some of the eggheads on here have been making jokes about the supposed Russian meddling in the election but I can't help but hope that Vlad Putin and the gang do participate in the survey based on some of the responses about second hand smoke. People from other countries must really laugh at us for being so gullible to believe that secondhand smoke is actually HARMFUL as opposed to ARGUABLY ANNOYING. Wake up SHEEPLE

Well this thread just took an odd turn. Are you saying that secondhand smoke isn't harmful?

I'm not the only one suggesting it. Reputable sources like the Cato Institute and Forbes Mag also have published on the matter. Heck, even the failing, whackos at slate.com have published stuff about it.

The CATO article is basically just a rant against government over-regulation. Not surprising considering it's the CATO Institute. I'm not saying I disagree with them, I have my own opinions about govt. regulation, but this isn't the place for that discussion. Their article is an attack on a single regulation passed by the EPA that they believe to be based on false data. It has nothing to do with medical studies into the overall affects of secondhand smoke.

The Slate article is based primarily around whether or not smoking bans have a short-term affect on the number of heart attacks. Some non-smoking advocacy organizations made some exaggerated claims shortly after the smoking bans were put in place in order to bolster their results. After enough time had passed to gather more data to be more accurate, their claims were shown to be just that...exaggerated. It goes on to debate the merit of smoking bans as they relate to the short-term affects of the number of heart attacks.

Neither article supports the claim that secondhand smoke is not harmful. Are you saying the CDC is wrong? The countless medical studies concluding that it is harmful, which far outweigh anything out there that says it isn't.

Don't even try to convince the anti-science "alternative facts" nonsense crowd. Please just let them keep their collective heads in the sand. They sound better that way.

I gave him/her information, all I can do is let people make their own decisions based on what is presented. It is tough to deal with people who hate science, but even worse to deal with people who don't understand the scientific method. Someday CC will start requiring doctorates to post on here, until then I'll just be educated the masses.

Guess a lot forgot the non smoking ship did not work out.

My first two cruises were on the non-smoking Paradise. I thoroughly enjoyed them. But back then the Paradise was only doing one or 2 itineraries, so I moved on to other ships sailing to different places. Had I seen Paradise with a different itinerary, I would have booked it immediately.

If someone books any Casino offered fare on Carnival, like a premier or ultra, the drinks on us card will be in the cabin when you arrive. This only applies to drinks gotten through the casino wait staff, supposedly while you are engaged in active casino play.

I sure hope that's the case. When I went one a similar land based casino offer on celebrity, I didn't even think about it and on the First sea day I stoped in casino for a slot pull and the host gave me a sticker for my card. Drinks only in casino free. Onto the smoking, the summit casino was smoke free and was so nice, as a former smoker I don't think I'd mind much but I'm glad I didn't have to even think about it.
