pooksma Posted July 11, 2017 #1 Share Posted July 11, 2017 Looking at booking our second NCL cruise. My son wants to bring a friend along but he doesn't have a passport yet. If we book now, can we add him to the room later? The room does accommodate 4. Will there be added cost as we are booking using the 3rd & 4th guest free? Thanks. This will help decide if we book or not.
adam_s_allen Posted July 11, 2017 #2 Share Posted July 11, 2017 If I recall correctly you don't need a passport when you book. Just when you do the online check in part
garycarla Posted July 11, 2017 #3 Share Posted July 11, 2017 All you need is a name to book it. And, depending on the cruise, you may not even need a passport. And, you may not be able to add him later. The room may hold 4 people, but once they hit the lifeboat capacity, it does not matter. BUT - if you are taking a minor without the parents, you will need some paperwork to let people know you are not smuggling a kid out of the country. ColinIllinois Posted July 11, 2017 #4 Share Posted July 11, 2017 (edited) I believe the only extra cost to add him would be the additional DSC and applicable port fees. Edited July 11, 2017 by ColinIllinois
Cruiseenthusiast101 Posted July 11, 2017 #5 Share Posted July 11, 2017 When are you going? What type of stateroom? This can cause the answers to vary. No matter what ship or sail state, the fourth guest would still have to pay taxes and gratuities. If I remember correctly for a 7 day cruise it should be an extra $200-$400. sanger727 Posted July 11, 2017 #6 Share Posted July 11, 2017 It would be better to book him now under 3rd and 4th sail free. If that promotion goes away and you want to add him you may not be able to get him 'free'. And if all u are paying are port fees and taxes, those get refunded even if you cancel him past final payment. Crazykat945 Posted July 12, 2017 #8 Share Posted July 12, 2017 I have a similar situation. at the time of booking, I got 3rd and 4th sail free rate and booked for 3. Now I want to add one more person, and it would cost me more (not just taxes) because the promotion is over at this time. Customer service said they recommend to book for 4 to take advantage of the rate and you can always remove one just so that you don't lose the promotion.
