Rare little britain Posted July 17, 2017 #1 Share Posted July 17, 2017 We had a late flight from FCO (7.55p) and we looked into the RCI option of staying on board. They offer this at $39pp but the latest you can disembark the ship is around 3.15p. Once we had collected our luggage and got a transfer to the airport at €75 we would still be at FCO far too early. Therefore we hired a car from the agency right at the cruise port gate. It is just round the corner from the fire station and the Bar at Via XVI Settembre 46. One little agency servicing Avis and Budget. Car hire was £132. This was comprable to the stay on board & transfer costs. The only thing we would miss out on was the 'free' lunch at the WindJammer. We drove to Orvieto - a beautiful drive of just under 2 hours. We were there by noon, a stunning hilltop city. Had a great lunch and then drove slowly back to FCO returning the car at 5.30p. A great way to end the cruise rather than just hanging around....
CruiserBruce Posted July 17, 2017 #2 Share Posted July 17, 2017 Sounds great. You could have also simply arranged a tour that ended by dropping you at the airport around 5pm. We did that last time we flew out of FCO.
Rare Hlitner Posted July 17, 2017 #3 Share Posted July 17, 2017 We have also used the rental car option (in Civitavecchia and several other disembarkation ports. From Civitavecchia we drove to Ostia Antica (only a few minutes from FCO) where we spent a few hours. Hank
