My take on Star Class

Was looking at star class but can't justify parting with $12k for a nicer room. I'm sure it's a nice experience, but man, it's pricey for the perks when other lines offer similar perks (and more) in a smaller room for half the cost.

All very valid points. Now if you could convince other lines to install flowriders I might give them a go. :D

For the amount of Star class voyages you've sailed you could have a flowrider in both your front and back yards!

LOL, it hasn't come close even without exchange. I have seriously considered it but after the hard and soft costs I can cruise for a loooong time and not come close and that doesn't include repair and maintenance.

 

The funny/sad thing is, where we live we could only use it half of the year.

There are competing companies that make similar (if not better) waves :)

 

More affordable than FlowRider....

Thank you for taking the time to post this information. Three of us are headed to the Harmony in Sept. and are currently in a Crown Loft Suite. I understand "worth it" is highly subjective, but we could upgrade to a Sky Loft for about $6,000 total and I am considering it. I have thus far had what are now Sky Class Perks on Freedom, Oasis and Allure, and really enjoyed them, but am wondering if the experience is that much better with the Star perks. I see that Star Class seats are reserved, but are those specific seats for Star Class guests, and are other rows reserved for Sky Class? Any other helpful info is appreciated.
We were offered an upsell to grand loft from our crown loft. It was about $2100 more if you subtract the included grats for the three of us. We were seriously considering it but we are on a b2b in the same crown loft. Wife said she ok with moving cabins but preferred to stay in same cabin. Inquired about getting the grand loft for second week, but it was not available. In the end we passed on the upsell. I am sure the experience would have been amazing but happy wife is way better.

 

Weird thing was this upsell was a little over 4 months from sailing. I reckon there was someone that really wanted our cabin for that week. One day we will get to experience star class. As it is now we cannot cruise less than a gs on oasis class.

I realise that this thread is a little old so not sure if anyone will reply 😅 however I would be really grateful if you could expand on this? We are very new to cruising and would love to have more information about other companies that offer similar service to RC star class at a cheaper price. We have only cruised with P&O and Royal Caribbean. If you don't mind, please can you tell me the names of the companies you would recommend and the class that is similar to RC's star class?

Norwegian offers a very exclusive suite class called The Haven. It comes with a butler and a secluded pool just for Haven guests.

Haven and MSC Yacht Club were what I was thinking.  However, I also posted that before doing the Haven.  And since sailing the Haven, I'm not that thrilled with the product.  Star class is within my budget, but I still don't think it's worth the price.  It's really a testament to just how good cruising is at all levels.  After doing suites on Royal and NCL, I decided it didn't offer much for the thousands of extra dollars.  So now we just book a regular cabin but I'll book the 7 day specialty dining as well.  You get a little bigger cabin, boarding 10 minutes faster, and not much else.  I don't see the value.  But others do, that's for sure.  I say if this person can afford it, then go for it.  They may love it.

@BNBR I have never sailed Star class but from what I know and saw about Star class, I agree. I sailed in sky class and I couldn’t see what perks justified an extra $6000. But that’s just my opinion, I completely understand each person determines something’s ‘worth’ differently. 

 

 But I do what you do, I book a Sky class suite and then buy the UDP and DBP and I feel like that’s perfect for me!

We have sailed in Star Class with Royal Caribbean and in Haven with NCL. NCL cannot compare in terms of service. NCL’s Butler is just a glorified Room Service attendant, he/she cannot book you shows or dining. But, we did enjoy their separate Haven area. And, the Haven suites can not compare to a Star Class Suite, eventhough their were comparably priced. 

 

In in terms of value of a Star Class Suite:

 

1. The Suites are usually bigger and in more desirable locations. 

 

2. The service onboard is much better because you are in Star Class, particularly in the Concierge Lounge and Coastal Kitchen. 

 

3. Your Genie will take care of all your needs from embarkation to dis-embarkation. You tell them when you want to arrive and leave. 

 

4. You get the best dining times and best seats at any shows. Your Genie will hold yours seats up to 5 mins before the show starts. And, you are escorted on and off the ship. We have left our Suite, gone through security, picked up luggage, gone through immigration and be out on the curb in 10 mins!

 

5. And, it is a truly “all inclusive “ fare, even Starbucks and Ben & Jerry ice cream. 

 

Star Class is just not Sky Class with the Ultimate Dining Package and Deluxe Drink Package. We cruise to enjoy and live life to the fullest. As long as we can afford it, we will cruise Star Class.

I priced out star class for the 2 of us next year.  $19000.  Oceanview $2800.  I just can't make the value proposition work in my head to justify $16000 extra for a genie to walk me off the ship (maybe saving 5 min) and sitting 1 row closer at show.  The room has little value to me as well, we don't spend much time there. 

 

But for some people it's well worth the extra cost and that's good.  It's priced based on what people are willing to pay and they certainly fill them up.

We have actually just (yesterday) returned from the 9 night mediterranean cruise, staying in the 4 bed villa suite on the Symphony. We booked it in June at the next cruise office whilst on the Navigator of the Seas and I think we got it at a ridiculously good price, which I doubt we will get again. Unless we shared the villa suite again (and miraculously got the same /similar price) I doubt we would be able to afford it 😭 It was a great experience but we are keen to try other ships with similar service. I will look into the ones you have suggested - thank you!!

For me, it would essentially be the same. I understand Star class offers more perks like the Ben & Jerrys and Starbucks as well as the genie. But for me, I have a cappuccino with breakfast and all the milkshakes I could want with JR. 

As for getting off the ship, from leaving the suite lounge to waiting for an Uber, was 15-20 minutes in sky class. 

But I do agree with you that different perks are more valuable to different people. For me, a sky class suite is too much space for me, I can even imagine what I would do with the space in a star class.

I thought the junior suite was more than we needed and not worth the upgrade price. Lol.  

 

I do think we may do a crown loft though soon. That's such a unique room and would be fun at a decent price.
