What to do on Ship on Port Day

 Share

Recommended Posts

We are planning to spend one of our port days on the ship (Reflection). Would like to hear from those that do this, and what does the ship offer for those that opt not to get off?

We love an itinerary where we can fit one of these days in! They really give you a chance to recover from those busy excursion days.

The ship will offer little in terms of organised activities on these days as it naturally assumes most guests are getting off. For those who stay on board it is great to have a leisurely lunch in an uncrowded Oceanview, take your pick of chairs by the pool, enjoy a few leisurely drinks, read your book....

The Spa does offer discounts on these days, worth enquiring...

The cruise line does not offer any thing special nor additional activities on port days.

For many staff, it is a few hours off and they too go ashore with the bulk of the pax.

It is a time when there will be ample loungers without towels or books keeping them company.:D

They nearly always offer discounted services at the spa on a port day .... so that takes up a couple of hours right there. You will also have access to the relaxation lounge if you book a spa service ... and it is so lovely and quiet in there. You basically have the same view as the bridge.

We also use this time to use the hot tubs and pools when they aren't crawling with people. We also have been known to watch the movie in the theater. It isn't very crowded but you can tell others oftentimes have the same idea.

We might just use those comfy chairs up on the top deck and have a glass of wine and snacks to watch the sunset if it is a evening call to a port.

If we've been to the same port many times in the past, we just use our day in port as another but much less crowded sea day.

We plan to do this in a couple of weeks while we're in Puerto Rico. (been there twice already)

It will be our first time staying on the ship in port. We love sea days a lot, and always feel like we could use another one, so I plan to make it like a sea day, but with less people.

  • Get up
  • have a coffee
  • wander the ship a little
  • work out
  • Have lunch
  • Relax out at pool/hot tubs and have a drink or three
  • Take a nap
  • Check if they are offering specials on specialty restaurants
  • Dine at a specialty restaurant if offered
  • wander the ship a little more
  • find a bar and have a drink
  • when it's dark, walk the outside promenade deck
  • very late, go to the helipad area to view the stars
  • have another drink or two at random location
  • grab a late night snack
  • go to bed.

:D:D:D

We like to sleep in and have a leisurely b-fast in the MDR or if we sleep too late on our balcony.......spend the morning dawdling over coffee and reading or talking....leave the ship around noonish or later to have lunch in port, especially Caribbean, some of our favorite lunch places are there like the Blue Bitch in St. Martin or the Pink Papaya in St. Lucia, take a leisurely stroll around the shops to see if anything new is interesting and then reboard at our leisure and sit on the balcony watching people come back....sometimes we're rewarded with a runner and then everybody cheers!!!

We love spending port days aboard. In fact, on an Eclipse cruise that went to 9 Caribbean ports, we stayed aboard for 8 of those ports :). What to do? For us the answer is as little as possible. We will eat a late breakfast and find the perfect deck loungers. Once we are settled I will get a Cappuccino and perhaps a Bloody Mary (or 2) Then we pull out our Kindles to read...but often doze off more then read. At lunch time we either grab something to eat from the grill (which is still free) or perhaps put on a coverup and check out the Lido. Then its back to our loungers and more reading/napping. Life is good.
