Thehyperfisherman Posted August 15, 2017 #1 Share Posted August 15, 2017 Has anyone here ever done this? Or gone back to the ship for lunch and tendered back to the beach? Do you remember what was open for lunch, was it the normal choices or was some stuff closed for the staff that works on the island?
DisneyDatknee Posted August 16, 2017 #2 Share Posted August 16, 2017 I think you would be crazy to go all the way back to the ship for lunch.. Just enjoy HMC  It's gorgeous. I don't know about the food as I went to HMC on Holland America, but we found it great for what it was. It wouldn't be worth the trip to the boat and back just to get a bite to eat. OCruisers Posted August 16, 2017 #3 Share Posted August 16, 2017 The food at the buffet at HMC is actually rather good... better than you might expect.:D Certainly not worth going back to the ship for lunch there ... but you can if you wish. Woodfaerie Posted August 16, 2017 #5 Share Posted August 16, 2017 I have been to the Half Moon buffet many a times. Its good picnic food, dogs, burgers, chicken, fruit, desserts. I cant imagine going there without taking part of it!
deborahjo Posted August 16, 2017 #6 Share Posted August 16, 2017 Loved the food. Lines move quickly and is actually very good. Meat grilled right in front of you. I would not return to the ship just to eat. Sent from my iPhone using Forums
evandbob Posted August 16, 2017 #7 Share Posted August 16, 2017 I like eating in the outdoor areas on HMC. The chicken is usually good, along with the rice and peas. I always ask for the island food, rather than burgers or hot dogs. It's free, no charge, and unless you want some special lunch, or have Cheers and don't want to get charged for drinks on HMC, there really isn't a need to return to the ship. Micahs Grandad Posted August 16, 2017 #9 Share Posted August 16, 2017 Things are open for the people who stay on the ship. Wonder how many people do stay on the ship? We think it is one of our favorite ports
RjayB Posted August 16, 2017 #10 Share Posted August 16, 2017 We stayed on the ship at HMC last time because of weather. They were barely able to run the tenders, and it was raining the whole time. We were glad we stayed on the ship for sure.
GradUT Posted August 16, 2017 #11 Share Posted August 16, 2017 When we went to HMC, it was raining lightly most of the day. We figured we were going to be wet anyway since we'd be in the water, so we were among the very few people who went to the island. While it would have been nice to have had a warm, sunny day, we still had a GREAT time.
lisagro Posted August 16, 2017 #12 Share Posted August 16, 2017 We stayed on the ship and had lots of fun playing games. The buffet was open; not sure if Guy's or any of the other restaurants were.
rkacruiser Posted August 16, 2017 #13 Share Posted August 16, 2017 I would not waste time returning to the ship and returning to the island in the afternoon for the rest of the port call. The Buffet lunch at HMC is good. Certainly the Lido Restaurant on the ship will be open for Lunch, but not sure about venues like Guy's, but I would imagine they would be. With many fellow guests on the island, the ship is much quieter (even a HAL vessel). It does allow one to enjoy the ship's facilities without many people around. winddawn Posted August 16, 2017 #14 Share Posted August 16, 2017 The grilled jerk chicken at HMC is delicious. There will be some lunch venues open on the ship, but it is more limited because the ship's staff carry all the food that is consumed on the island off of the ship, and serve it on the island leaving fewer food personnel on the ship. There isn't much in the way of activities to do on the ship while anchored at HMC. But you could sunbathe and swim on the ship weather permitting. SadieN Posted August 17, 2017 #15 Share Posted August 17, 2017 Stating the obvious... The FunTimes will have a list of what's open that day for lunch onboard. Sent from my iPhone using Forums
kollarism Posted August 17, 2017 #16 Share Posted August 17, 2017 HMC was awesome. We also went to Nassau and Grand Turk, and wish we could have just stayed at HMC for 3 days. Stay and enjoy!
The4Cruisers Posted August 17, 2017 #17 Share Posted August 17, 2017 We've been to HMC 4 or 5 times and we have yet to eat lunch there or on the ship. We usually have a good breakfast and leave the ship after the masses. Then we're good on food till we get back to the ship later in the afternoon. meatloafsfan Posted August 17, 2017 #18 Share Posted August 17, 2017 My mom can't tender so I stay on the ship with her. All of the regular sea day stuff is open on the lido deck and room service is also available. Sent from my SM-T350 using Tapatalk
Towel Critter Posted August 17, 2017 #19 Share Posted August 17, 2017 The grilled jerk chicken at HMC is delicious. Yes it is! And I'm not that big of a chicken fan normally. Would love to have that specific jerk recipe.
poz222 Posted August 17, 2017 #20 Share Posted August 17, 2017 I too stayed onboard due to a medical issue tendering and although I missed visiting the amazing island on that trip, it was nice to have a semi-private ship. As others said, the usual options are open (no lines either)... but no entertainment to really speak of... just empty pools, jacuzzis and venues... very relaxing
