Rare MVPinBoynton Posted August 29, 2017 #1 Share Posted August 29, 2017 Does HAL still have the crisp of the day for dessert in the MDR? I loved that option on our only HAL cruise in 2014. With us having 2 HAL cruises in the next 5 months, I was hoping they still have them.
haleygirl Posted August 29, 2017 #2 Share Posted August 29, 2017 The "crisp of the day" was on the MDR menu when we sailed on the Westerdam in June. They were delish and I hope that you will have them on your sailings too.
Rare Scrapnana Posted August 29, 2017 #3 Share Posted August 29, 2017 It was hard deciding between the crisp and the crème brulee.:o
Krazy Kruizers Posted August 29, 2017 #4 Share Posted August 29, 2017 If I had to choose between the crisp or the creme brulee -- I would choose the creme brulee.
Rare rafinmd Posted August 29, 2017 #5 Share Posted August 29, 2017 Every recent HAL cruise I've been on. It's amazing how long they can go without repeating a crisp. Roy
Rare MVPinBoynton Posted August 29, 2017 Author #6 Share Posted August 29, 2017 Thank you all for that wonderful news. It is another reason I am looking forward to our HAL cruises.
shrimp56 Posted August 29, 2017 #7 Share Posted August 29, 2017 (edited) And another fan of the HAL dessert crisps (crumbles?). Blueberry-mango comes to mind. However on our recent Prinsendam cruise the topping was too hard and tasted a bit like breakfast cereal. Note: this was perhaps the only misstep from Prinsendam's kitchen. The cuisine was much above the normal HAL product. Edited August 29, 2017 by shrimp56

Rare POA1 Posted August 29, 2017 #14 Share Posted August 29, 2017 In honor of POA1, was there a prune crisp, by chance? Never saw a prune crisp. I hope they don't discontinue them as long as my father-in-law is around. It's his favorite dessert and he lights up like a little kid when the dining room steward suggests a scoop of ice cream on top.
rkacruiser Posted August 29, 2017 #15 Share Posted August 29, 2017 I recall a Banana Crisp. And, I agree, the crisps are delicious with or without a scoop of ice cream!
shrimp56 Posted August 29, 2017 #16 Share Posted August 29, 2017 You left out the most important one - APPLE! The one I avoid is the banana crisp/crumble. Seems like an oxymoron. Otherwise I'm good (and yeah that scoop of vanilla ice cream...)
RMLincoln Posted August 29, 2017 #17 Share Posted August 29, 2017 I think I'd like a prune crisp/crumble... I used to love the prune danishes I grew up with in Brooklyn! Rhubarb! Excellent... Any more flavors? Or are we going to have to diving into menu sites? m--
LuAnn Posted August 29, 2017 #18 Share Posted August 29, 2017 Not a crisp/crumble but is bread pudding still available in the buffet?...always was so good! LuAnn
wander Posted August 29, 2017 #19 Share Posted August 29, 2017 I realize the question is about the MDR, but my last few cruises they also had a fruit crisp/crumble at lunch in the Lido - next to the bread pudding. This makes me happy as I seldom have dessert at dinner time. According to the great source of information, Google, Crisp and Crumble are basically the same. Cobblers are different due to the manner in which the topping is prepared.

Rare POA1 Posted August 29, 2017 #22 Share Posted August 29, 2017 What is a crisp? Also known as a crumble or a cobbler.
rajkr74 Posted August 30, 2017 #23 Share Posted August 30, 2017 Also known as a crumble or a cobbler. We make a crisp (crumble) with butter, brown sugar, uncooked oatmeal and flower that is mixed up and spread over the top of the fruit and baked. We make cobbler with Bisquick as the only ingredient that is spread over the top of the fruit and baked. I have always enjoyed HALs crisps even if the toppings are a little different than what we make.
