What is your favorite experience where NCL went above and beyond? [emoji847]

In 2015 I was on the GEM and decided to relax and listen to the singer LEO. He asked everyone's name who suggested a song .The next night I went to listen again and much to my surprise he remembered not only everyone's name but where they lived as well.

He dubbed me Lenny from NY and he remembered me on subsequent cruises.

Loved Leo! We had a similar experience in the Gem with a waiter Ivan and Shreta who was on the cruise staff. They made us feel like family! True vacation heroes!

really hard to say: I think number `1 would have to be our sailing on the Jewel; her first cruise from UK to America. It was just an awesome experience even though we did have some iffy weather. \

My second memory was our being on the "not so newly wed" game show about 2 or 3 years ago, even though hubby embarrassed the heck out of me with some of his answers. We still had a blast and still love watching the video.

Not a big deal but it set the tone for a great cruise. This happened in 2014 on our Panama Canal cruise on the Star. We had finished our evening meal in the main dining room and our waiter asked what our choices would be for dessert. My sister was the only one who didn’t want dessert and told the waiter no dessert. When the desserts came out my sister was served a plate with the words “No Dessert” written in chocolate. We all got quite a laugh out of that.

Thanksgiving 2009 on the Dawn the ship had major power failure. The Captain and Crew were wonderful. We were on our way home from St. Kitts. A long story so I will not bore you on details, but the most memorable night I have spent aboard a cruise ship was then. No air conditioning, so very hot. We slept on the loungers under the stars. Ship was going very slow, almost stopped. You could see so many stars and no sound except my husbands snoring. I laid there thinking about how little we are in this world.

Two things come to mind. We were on the Epic. The first day, as soon as we boarded we headed to the bar. We had a great time. When we left I gave our waitress a $10.00 tip. We had the drink package so this was on top of the 18% that was already billed to our account. A couple of days later I was in the casino and didn't want to wait for our server. I ran over to O'Shehans for a beer and the line was a mile long. The waitress I had tipped three days earlier saw me and got me my Mick Ultra even though the line was a mile long.

On the same cruise we were front row center for "Priscilla Queen of The Desert" It was totally amazing.

Amazing story! I appreciate your positive attitude in dealing with this unplanned situation.

Above and beyond was on our 13 night Breakaway cruise to the Southern Caribbean this past January. We had just spent 3 nights at Sea and had visited San Juan Puerto Rico. That night our daughter became violently ill, vomiting everywhere. She tried to make it to the bathroom but there were many times she didn't. Her room was a mess. Luckily we had a 2 bedroom suite. This went on all night. While I took her to the ships hospital in the morning, they had a crew come in and deep clean her room. Carpet shampooed, mattress, pillows and bedding replaced. She had vomited on her favorite pillow she brought from home. I figured we would have to throw it out, but instead they took her pillow and had it deep cleaned as well with a rush order and no charge!

At first the Dr thought she had appendicitis and we may have had to leave the ship in St Thomas. But he did a few more tests and it turned out she was so sick from a Urinary Tract Infection. Antibiotics, IV hydration, IV anti emetic and she was good as new. She didn't even miss splash academy that night.

The ship Dr, concierge, and room stewards checked on her numerous times for the duration of the cruise and even found her some Gatorade to keep her hydrated.

If that's not above and beyond I don't know what is.

The Upgrade Fairy awarded us the Garden Villa on the Dawn one week before we cruised. In the GV we met Winn, THE BEST cabin steward we had ever had on any cruise. Everything about that trip was top notch and we made memories that will last a lifetime!

The last story reminds me of one more: a few years ago we were coming out of the buffet and passed the pool area. Hubby, and it was his won fault, tripped over a chaise lounge and got pretty well banged up. So badly that he still has scars on his arm. The crew, the doctors, everyone bent over backwards to help him and treat him. I don't even know if our doctor, at home would have done the same, certainly no one could have done more. There was just one downside to the story: we had the spa package and the doctor made it clear, including a letter that he would not take part in any spa activities for the remainder of the cruise. We had hoped the manager of the spa would give us some credit back as this was early in the cruise. They did not. Even the customer service desk was shocked at their attitude, but we do understand the spa is managed by a separate company and the ship pretty much just leases it to them. OK, I am simplifying this, but pretty much that is how it works.

We were on the Gem on an Eastern Caribbean cruise that sailed the end of March until April 6th in 2015. It was myself, DH, my MIL and my Dad. My MIL was suppose to go with us to Bermuda on the Breakaway in Sept 2014 but was hospitalized so she had to cancel. She said afterwards that she would definitely go on another cruise before she dies. After that hospitalization, she mainly got around with a walker or wheelchair. So needless to say, we had to take these things with us. So many crew members on the Gem assisted us with getting her on and off the ship at all ports, and also helped in the dining rooms and buffet. Every night, Mandy and Joey from the cruise directors staff would come see her and hug her before the shows. She was like a celebrity. The rest of us just chuckled at all the attention at the time. Sadly, 20 days after returning home, my MIL suddenly passed away. Now, DH and I are so extremely grateful for how the Gem staff made her feel and we tell senior officers all the time about it. We did run into Mandy again this past Feb on the Epic. We gave her hugs every time we saw her because that is what my MIL would have wanted.

In April 2017 we celebrated our 50 wedding anniversary on the Escape in a Haven suite with some family and friends. Over the past several years we have taken a number of cruises with family and it was more of a force march type vacation but our Escape cruise in April was very relaxing. We stayed on the ship when in two of the ports and just enjoyed the ship. The staff onboard could not be more accommodating; job well done. We enjoyed it so much we are going on a Christmas cruise on the Escape with the same itinerary to discover parts of the ship we did not have time to enjoy on our first Escape cruise. What better testament to the ambiance of the Escape we experienced the first time we visited her.

We were on the Gem and in the elevator with a couple of teenagers. The door opened and there was a very frail looking stooped over elderly woman walking slowly into the elevator. One of the teenagers stepped forward helping her in and said "Here Nana, I will help you". And no it wasn't her Nana. It brought tears to my eyes and restored my faith in today's youth.

I love hearing happy memories. One of my best is my last cruise on the Breakaway. It was our first time sailing with a baby (10 months). My son did very well and behaved but I always nervous he would have a meltdown during dinner. The waitstaff always made me feel welcomed and they interacted with my son. I know many of them have kids of their own back home. They all approached my son with a smile. At the time my son was purées and soft foods. If we ordered a side dish for him or mashed potato or steamed vegetables, it was always plated nicely. The staff always asked if there was something they could get for him. Made me feel better about cruising with a child. Now with a 2 year old and 7 month old, we will sail on her again in October!

One of our favorite stories was taking my nephew who had recently turn 21 and was interested in learning more about wines on a the Spirit Venice-Barcelona as a graduation gift. The very first night, literally, as we were talking to him about the difference between dry and sweet wines, and explaining the role of tannins, the cruise beverage director came over to introduce himself. When we explained the serendipity, he sat down, spend 15 minutes with us talking to my nephew about wines and for the rest of the cruise regularly stopped by with suggestions and insisting that we try pairing three or four different ones with different entrées or appetizers. It was like providing my nephew with a private wine appreciation course!

(My nephew subsequently took a job working for a wine distributor!)
